Callum Smith vs. Ruben Eduardo Acosta, 10 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Round 1

Smith is working behind the left jab, getting in close to Acosta and hooking the body when Acosta covers up and drops straight down. Acosta is turning his body away from the taller man and hooking up at him, missing from mid-range.

Round 2

More combination work by Smith, going to head and body. Acosta is circling away, measuring out his jab but not dispensing it, instead waiting to hook as Smith is facing him in mid-turn. Smith keeps the long jab held out toward Acosta's head and looks to hook under his elbows.

Round 3

Smith is pressing in behind the jab, drawing the hook from Acosta and then countering with his own hook when he sees the break in Acosta's guard. A few body shots peppered in by Smith from outside, cautiously maintaining a little distance. Acosta is pressed into the ropes and tries a shoulder roll defense but cops a few hooks and rights on the chin. Acosta

Round 4

Smith is jabbing into Acosta's tightly-held vertically-positioned forearms. Acosta hops to his left and swats out with a wide left hook, meant to obscure Smith's vision more than land. Smith pushes Acosta into the ropes with a 1-2 but his follow-up hook is ducked. Acosta is weaving side to side and sticking out a jab before diving in and tossing upper-hooks into Smith's right flank, very light tapping blows. Double jab by Smith walking Acosta to the ropes. Acosta ducks a hook and comes up with a straight flurry, missing past Smith's cheeks as he turns in the pocket and mows his way into Acosta, chest to chest. Smith taps Acosta between the eyes with a double jab, keeping him on the ropes. Acosta beckons to 'bring it'.

Round 5

Smith has a slight trickling nosebleed, probably accumulative from Acosta's grazing jabs and hooks as none have landed flush. Smith is approaching with his left arm cradled at his side walking Acosta down with right hands to body and head. Acosta twists and rolls with them and talks smack to Smith, downplaying his shots' effectiveness while retreating from them.

Round 6

Smith is jabbing out at Acosta as the smaller man darts from side to side and shakes out his arms to loosen up. HUGE BODY SHOT BY SMITH, A SKEWERING RIGHT HAND LEAD FOLLOWED BY TWO LEFT HOOKS! Acosta is down in a corner, in agony. He manages to get up and jumps in to exchange with Smith. BIG LEFT HOOK TO THE LIVER BY SMITH!! ACOSTA IS RUINED!

KO6!

 

Damn. At the halfway point it seemed Acosta was going to get his apparent wish and cruise to a shutout UD loss with his cutie pie antics...but then Smith ravaged his internal organs and showed off the power!

 

Acosta has gone the distance - either ten or twelve rounds - with Ezequiel Maderna x2, Andrea Di Luisa, Alexander Brand, and Karoly Balzsay - all of whom can hit.

He was only ever stopped by Anthony Mundine and Robert Stieglitz. World caliber guys...and they were at their peaks when he fought them.
