I've just been looking at his record and he hasnt fought to many fighters who have a winning record except Elwell, Mcintyre, Jones and David, but even then these fighters have a few loses to their name and not that many fights. I believe he has the goods to make it to the world stage but after looking at his record i think i might be getting to carried away as he has some flaws which will come out against the top boys. What do you think?
I've only seen his fight with Stuart Elwell so I'm possibly wrong here but I think he looks a little too slow and seems to hang his chin right out there when he attacks. In his favour his punches are incredibly accurate, didn't see him waste hardly a punch even if it was a little bit of an ugly fight. I don't see him being able to avoid punches at the top level in the style he does but he does look like he will at least earn himself a world title fight and he could surprise me against a big name (Carl Froch is case and point, I thought he was dead in the water), like his Hatton a like trunks though
Just watched his fight with McIntyre, still don't think he is as fast as Naz but his counter punching is quality, looked a lot better in that fight for obvious reasons. Seems to have a lot of sting behind his punches and with his counter ability and quick hands he has a shot but again, I think he leaves his chin out there to be tagged so I guess the test is can he take a knock (he may have already, I don't know to be quite honest).
I think your assesment is spot on. Records are deceiving. His best opponent, supposedly, is Kevin McIntyre. Reasonable fighter though he is, his chin is not the best. He's been knocked out in nearly all his losses. Stuart Elwell is not a British title standard opponent. Wasn't he a marine or something by day? He'd never fought anybody to get that title shot, I don't know what the BBBoC were thinking as he was way out of his depth. Barrie Jones was probably his best opponent, or at least in the best form considering McIntyre's inactivity. It took him 7 rounds and a struggle to dispose of Barrie as opposed to the latter that have taken a combined 3 rounds. I think that really tells you the chins/standard of the last opponents that have made him look a lot more powerful than he really is. To me he's a good fighter, a good counterpuncher with a nice sense of timing and range but he's not half as quick as he thinks to be pulling off his 'defence' which consists of the tiniest bit of head movement, and leaning back with his chin in the air. His power will also prove to be no more than decent, not this wrecking machine he's appeared lately.
