So Kell Brook does his ringwalk, gets into the ring, then proceeds to take off his gloves and put new ones on.

    In the ring.

That's not supposed to happen in boxing. What kind of a promotional racket allows such a thing to occur?

Gloves are supposed to be taken care of in the locker room. How in the world did it happen that Kell would be wearing a set of gloves that he would come out with then change them.

So the story I'm being told is that apparently it was in the contract that Kell Brook couldn't use horse hair gloves, but then he proceeded to wear horse hair gloves anyway, and that was approved somehow despite being in the contract.

So, was Khan being a diva by insisting that Kell couldn't use horse hair gloves? So then Kell Brook is forced to change out of those gloves and use different gloves without horse hair, and proceeds to mark Khan up in the face worse than we've ever seen Khan marked up before. How is it that Kell was allowed to get those gloves on in the first place if they weren't allowed in the contract?

I've never seen anything like that before, a fighter putting on new gloves in the ring before the fight. I mean, you look at all the scrutiny there is over gloves and handwraps in America, there's commissions in place that monitor this in the locker rooms. I'm just trying to understand how Kell was able to walk out to the ring in gloves that were banned in the contract. Is this a failure of Kell's team for not abiding by th terms of the contract? Was Khan being unreasonable not letting him wear horse hair gloves? Was it a failure of the commission or the promoter to allow such an in-ring glove changng incident. That's a black eye to British boxing to allow such glove-changing shenanigans to occur.

Kell wanted to show he can win regardless of gloves so they changed them in the ring.

btw in the old days boxers used to get their gloves put on in the ring after the wraps were checked.
    See Willard-Dempsey for example.

I think Kell's team just wanted to make a statement

Officials should have forced him to change them in the lockerroom.

They shouldn't allow any other gloves in changing room at all apart from the approved ones but I think that's where the problem lies with a contractual clause and the sporting commission being two separate entities.

Commission has no oversight of contract clauses

Floyd didn't even contractually force Maidana to use foam gloves, he just threatened legal action if Maidana pulled out of the fight.

    Too much politics for boxing

So it was all a well laid out strategy by Kell, to wear those gloves to the ring knowing that he would have to change them in the ring? Was his trainer Dominic Ingle also in on this?
True, but that was over a century ago. When was the last time that happened? It was a bizarre scene to see him changing gloves in the ring.

I think he wanted to show he can make that chin explode with either horse hair gloves or foam gloves it doesn't matter.

    It wasnt necessary a strategy.
They knew they had to change them so doing it in the ring would be good mental edge they thought.
Pfff,I dont know the last time but it used to happen until relatively recently.I believe until the 50s or so.

And yet he couldn't even drop him once. Khan's chin held up all night.

The ref robbed us of a highlight KO. Ref did the right thing save KHAN.Actually he was stumbling to his corner and all over the place. Kinda felt sorry him.

LOL so this wasn't just an organic "misunderstanding" about what gloves he could use. This was Kell knowing he was doing something against the rules but doing it anyway. This was Kell walking out to the ring knowing that he was about to get "caught" in the act with his hand in the cookie jar so to speak, all an effort to gain a "mental edge" on Khan. I mean, wow, I've heard of gamesmanship like making your guy wait in the ring before doing your ring walk, but that's really taking it to the extreme. Isn't just the fact that he came out to the ring in banned gloves a breach of contract?

Well to be exact it was against the contrwct not against the rules.
    I think you midunserstood.
The issue with the gloves was discussed in the locker rooms beforehand which is why the fight was delayed.
Brook’s camp acepted to change the gloves prior to the fight.
They did it in the ring(as opposed to the locker room) so to show “it doesnt matter what mental games you play I will still win” type thing.

It didn't look good for Khan, but I'm not convinced Brook would have been able to stop him on his own. Brook had pretty much thrown the kitchen sink at Khan up to that point and Khan hadn't gone anywhere.

It was a very anti-climactic ending, to say the least. A premature stoppage, a stoppage that you could say "saved" Khan from further punishment. But I don't think Khan was done at that point. He was covering up, picking off most of Brook's shots. Khan just look exhausted more than anything. I mean Kell really put it on him, but if we're honest Khan just looked like he didn't want to be there. Even before the fight started, look at his demeanor.

The whole situation was crazy. Getting marked up worse than he ever had after Brook changing to less damaging gloves, with Khan with big black "cupping therapy" marks all over his body. Just bizarre stuff. I knew this fight would be crazy, but it was even crazier than I thought with all the shenanigans that went on. I feel like we got short-changed to be honest. I mean, it was exciting, but Khan did not have his normal energy. We could have seen a 12 round war, a real back and forth classic, but Khan just didn't have that kind of a fight in him last night, which I find unacceptable in a fight of that magnitude.

And then at the post fight press conference Khan proceeds to praise Bud and his team for preparing him so well. For that crap performance? LMFAO you can't make this stuff up. This was the worst he ever looked by far, with big black cupping marks all over his body, face all marked up from "pillow" gloves that Kell was forced to wear and change into in the ring. Crazy crazy night.
