I agree with him that international amateur success (as opposed to merely a lengthy/positive record there) is a generally reliable indicator of someone's quality and ceiling in the pros, especially from the Cuban school. ...and that Spence would have knocked Pac out. ...and that Porter might actually be HOF bound. And he's right that Pac should just cash out against McGregor. Low risk of losing, huge name/fat purse, and on a more petty note of personal motivation he can one-up Mayweather, potentially.
How sad would it be if McGregor clipped him? Paulie losing to Lobov you could almost forgive due to how poorly his style translates to BKB and how shot he was, but this would be a truly depressing and dark moment for boxing. Pacs at the point in his career where it can totally unravel overnight, there was huge difference between how he looked just 2 years ago the other night. I wouldn't want to see it..... Good for him financially but there's a chance disaster strikes.
Disastrous if he did, but I'd put money on a Pac victory (with a good chance of him, if anyone, scoring a stoppage).
mcgregor is already in talks of training boxing with canelos team. I could see that fight happening down the road.
43 in December right? That's ancient for a boxer. McG won't be doing anything for a long time with that leg. Bad combo, don't see that happening. Last thing he should want is to follow in a Floyd footstep again.
McGregor could land his best punch and Pacquiao would'nt even blink at it, in fact he'd laugh and walk straight through him. With boxing gloves on McGregor's punch does'nt carry much power behind it, look at the Mayweather fight none of McGregors punches had any torque behind them because missing against top tier boxers means you're going to get countered very hard if you're the caliber boxer McGregor is. McGregor would get destroyed by any top 20 welterweight boxer, that simple.
Probably true. But Pac is a 42 year old fighter who's been in professional prize fighting for almost 30 years, at this point he's going to continue to decline at a rapid rate. There's a huge gap between 2019 Pac who fought Thurman and 2021 Pac as it is. I'd rather see him fight someone like Guerrero. Better and more respectful fight for the boxing purists and a potential loss there wouldn't be nearly as tragic(I favor him to win both FYI)
My point is that McGregor does'nt stand a chance against a fighter the know how and caliber of Pacquiao. Conor just does'nt have the boxing pedigree to beat even a 50 year old Pacquiao, much less the existing one. As far as Guerrero is concerned, Pacquiao would destroy him, lets not forget who Guerrero fought. Both Guerrero and Ortiz are not top 20 welterweights, their best days have long passed. Current Pacquiao likely beats both those guys in their prime.
It annoys me to no end that ESPN likely pays Max the same as or less than Stephen A. Smith (proportionate with how much they feature them onscreen), and presents both as 'boxing experts'.
They cover both ends with that guy. Kellerman covers the actual analysis and general knowledge side of things - Smith is just there to generate controversy with the stupid **** he says. Unfortunately ESPN is right from a purely business standpoint, Smith will be there as long as his shtick generates controversy, and sadly I don't see that changing anytime soon.
