I think the current Showtime team is miles ahead of HBO at this point. I loved Lampley when I was young and too dumb to realize what a moronic drama queen he is. Manny and Max also compensate for Harold and Lampley but Manny can occasionally make me wonder why I hold him in such high regard
You cant blame Merchant for criticising Boxing nowadays. I mean this guy was around when there was a war every weekend and the only way of fighting was toe to toe! Today we go crazy when we see a so called "war" one a year or two between a guy who got knocked the **** out from a japanese jab and a guy who calls himself and looks like a dog!
Manny Steward? The only commentator in history who came out with more bull**** than him was George Foreman.
Yeah, I already conceded that. See earlier post. Just can't make myself dislike the man, even he was ripping on Gatti.
I don't dislike Manny Steward, but the guy is a mega clown whilst doing commentary. "First of all, this fight went exactly as I predicted".
Same here. He'll always have a place in a nostalgic little corner of my heart for making the Tapia/Hamed/Morales/Barrera days (which were my threshold from casual to diehard fan) that much more exhilarating with his flair for going hoarse and getting carried away to a fever pitch. He is most assuredly a company man, though. That's become apparent as I've gotten older. Whatever the HBO agenda is, he'll spoon it out to the audience at home with kindergarten teacher levels of condescension (Open up, here comes the airplane! Bzzooooh!) and a **** eating grin that shows he's willing to gag himself on that same spoon.
Fact is, old guys watch boxing too and they can relate. Anytime that he opens his mouth and relates an event or talks about a fighter that he actually talked too and you have to read about then hes sharing some knowledge thats probably new , relevant , and interesting to some young fighter and to folks watching the broadast. While he may not meet your requirements, Im sure there are a great many others that he does.:bbb:bbb:bbb
IB! Would you kindly humor this noob and answer the question I put forth in my last post on the "24/7 Made Me`Cry" thread. I would like to have a reasonable poster answer it:yep Would post the link but not yet proficient in the forum tools
Consequently golf is probably the only sport people that like Merchant wont embarrass themselves playing.
Kellerman.. but everyone's been on the money in this thread thus far... Showtime has a better commentating crew... Lampley is a drama queen, Foreman didn't ever know what he was talking about, RJJ... is just RJJ... and Steward (even though I love the guy) always had to be right..... Merchant is pretty old though and says some random things and (if you haven't noticed) he stays quiet through out most of the commentary.. way more quiet than Kellerman does. He just might be a little past it now.... SO I think Kellerman is better but I liked Kellerman a whole lot more when he was on ESPN around the horn... I loved that show... and we can't forget about Lederman.. his voice is perfect lol.... so annoying and useless but perfect nonetheless lol...
