Okay, I agree. Movement will be the killer for Margarito. PBF won't come back to fight him due to money. Oscar could give him a run, but will also tire.

Did any of you guys catch this fight via streamline? I was shocked and watched it at my job.

    - PBF will beat Margo, but will get beat in the process (not up to the challenge)
    - Oscar will probably get KO'd or lose a wide UD. (fades down the stretch)

Borincano, I'm from Quisqueya and I'm mourning our boy Cotto's loss.
But that Margo is a beast.

Out with the old... In with the new and annoying...

(I'd take Merchant if he's paired with Foreman anytime)

Watched it live and when I saw the 4th round (when Margo caught him with the uppercut and he started having problems breathing) that's when I realized that it was going to be a tough night for Cotto.

He also looked too big for him in the weigh in.

You're joking right?? Making stupid rap videos just proves how utterly unqualified this twerp is. If it wasn't for his daddy's connections, Bill Cayton would never have plucked this punk from obscurity and put him on ESPN.

    Dude these are different times.
Yes it's true, the ol' skool commentators would probably be sports reporters following athletes around, writing for news papers and build cred. But that was the Baby-boomer way to do things.

Now we have MTV, youtube, blogs, people build their credibility doing different things. Just to give you an example... in Movie directing before you had to build up from the ground in Hollywood, now you can start making music videos and cross over. An example of this is McG he started doing music videos, then directed the crappy charlie's angels and he's directing the biggest movie for next year (Terminator 4).

If you are into boxing, watch the videos of Sugar Ray Robinson, Jake LaMotta, Joe Louis, do the research, start your own blog, contribute to max boxing, get professional training, do speech coaching, etc. In a few years you may be qualified to commentate.

And that goes to show why the old school way of doing things is usually the right way to do it!!!! Old school means that it's been done for a reason in a certain way to get the best possible outcome. With the "new school" way, we end up with Max Kellerman on HBO Championship Boxing. Need I say more about the downside of doing things "new school"?

Sadly, if you want to go old school you won't be able to make it.

    - Newspapers are not selling
    - Journalism relies more on new media (blogs, webcasts, etc.)

The basics is get training and do research (which I mentioned)

The new ways will give you the exposure to get an opportunity. There's an example: The kid from Maxboxing (brown skin, pony tail) he started with the website and now you see him contribute to the 24x7 series.

Bingo. Tried and true methods of doing things - like gaining EXPERIENCE by paying dues - produce better results, and in this case, far better commmentators.

Just look at the difference in quality, maturity and insight between an Al Bernstein or Larry Merchant and punks like Kellerman. There's NO COMPARISON. Somebody said that replacing Merchant with Kellerman is like replacing Piccasso with the guy who does Elvis paintings outside of Graceland. I think that pretty much says it all.
