You seem to imply that is impossible to get credibility using new media.
Sadly you're an example of 'resistance to change' 20 years from now people would be criticizing Kellerman's substutite.

Manny Steward seemed to be the only one who notcied that even though Cotto was landing sharper looking shots upstairs , Margarito was wearing Cotto down with his pressure and body work.

Manny knew that Cotto was going to lose. He's been there with his own fighter, although much more flawed than Cotto, has heavier hands.
The problem is he can't state that from the beginning.

I think that using new media is definitely the present and future, but the old school way could still be applied. I mean that in the sense of making your bones over a longer period of time compared to the unqualified children of today that get prestigious postions like Max did on HBO Championship Boxing.

A person can use new media to make his bones by creating a blog and contributing to boxing websites. That person should also then possibly move on to writing for major websites and magazines like ESPN, ESPN THE MAGAZINE, Sport Illustrated, The Ring Magazine, etc. Possibly also be a syndicated writer that is published nationally or cover boxing for the Associated Press. The main point being that the "Old School" way of doing things is to cover the topic for a number of years and THEN move to the big time like HBO Championship Boxing. The "new school" way is to some extremely minor stuff like a personal blog or public access and then immediately jump to the big time.

Why do you think Major League Baseball has a minor league system? It's to give players experience and seasoning, then move them to the big time. RARELY does a player jump straight from high school to the majors. If the player does it's because he is EXTREMELY talented. I don't think that there could possibly be any argument that Max Kellerman has any talent, much less an overabundance.

As far as people critisizing Max's replacement in twenty years, I don't hear anybody crying about the fact that he is no longer on ESPN's Around the Horn or Friday Night Fights. I also don't hear anybody crying that his show on FSN was taken off the air within three months. All I hear is one of two things. Either Max Kellerman is the worst commentator they have ever seen, or at best "hey Max wasn't horrible last night for once, he seems to be coming around a little bit". Don't you think that if you make it to the very top of your profession, that people shouldn't be surprised that you don't absolutely suck on a given night and that it was a nice surprise that they didn't feel like shooting the television set?

Who'd win between Max K or Charlie Z in a battle of fisticuffs?

Kellerman was superb last night. Excellent thread. He was really at his best in detailing Cotto's being broken by Margo and what was going on. Thank God, because Lampley was lost in Cotto's nutsack.

All good points, but I think you're not looking at the guy's experience. He's been around the block and is still very young (34), for that age he has a lot of mileage.

I think most people are too distracted by the fact that they want to punch him in the face rather than listening to what he has to say.

Other than when he let's the fan in him overcome, he's been excellent.

He, as Lampley is very biased. Those 2 fan boys get too happy when one fighter invites them to go golf, or party with them.

Kellerman had it right when he said after the 6th round that looks like he wishes wishes the fight was over and for Margo this fight has just begun.

I didn't like what Kellerman was insinuating at the end of that fight. He basically did everything but flat out call Cotto a quitter. I don't believe he quit last night, Margo just wore him down to the point he couldn't really continue. **** Kellerman!
