Joe Calzaghe was able to defeat Bernard Hopkins on workrate and variety. Kelly Pavlik will be throwing those one-twos all night, and they'll most likely hit Hopkins gloves. On that basis, I see Hopkins outlanding Pavlik who doesn't have a defense. I don't see Pavlik knocking Bernard out, because nobody lands on him cleanly enough to stop him, and Hopkins has been fighting bigger men than Pavlik. Hopkins UD.
Maybe a few years ago but this version of Hopkins wont keep up that work rate and will fade in the latter part of the fight as he did with JC.
Bernard is masterful at making class fighters look like amateurs, he can take away your rythym and your game and make you fight his fight and his pace.....nobody walks through Bernard Hopkins. He very clever at hiding shots as Joe-C found out, it would be a tough fight for Kelly, but Kelly does like to come forward and his workrate is excellent, his stamina is also sufficient, does he have plan B's and C's i dunno..... For me right now YES he beats him.
I posted yesterday that I think, at the moment, Pavlik is a 'B' fighter. The reason for this being that he is yet to face an opponent I would consider to be world class. Both Kessler and Hopkins are of a better standard than anyone on Pavlik's resume in my opinion. So what does that mean - well firstly it means we cant say with any authority how Pavlik would fare against P4P #2 when he is yet to face anyone near that standard. For what its worth I think Pavlik and Kessler will both be the future of the SMW division in coming years and I think they will both be world class. However, right now, Calzaghe takes advantage of Kelly's stand up, straight lines style and UD's him with relative ease.
The knockdown against Hopkins was a precise opportunist punch that caught Calzaghe early. Pavlik gets his knockdowns from the outside and this is Calzaghe's territory. Impossible to see Calzaghe being outboxed by Pavlik.
Joe Calzaghe isn't outboxed by anybody around his weight class today. He isn't knocked out by anybody either, so I don't see how Pavlik could beat Joe.
is it just me or kelly pavliks powers being a little bit overrated sure the guy can bang but your forgetting his bigger than all his oponents infact his the biggest in his weight right?...and his got only 6-7 real KO`s on his record not tko....in the lockett fight ....lockett took many of his punches and he went on his knee 3 times but his legs didnt go..he werent wobbly or nothing neither.
It's how sneaky Hopkins was and caught Calzaghe unexpectedly that caused the knockdown, Kelly is one-dimensional and hardly sneaky.
