hopkins is around b class as well these days, it will be painfully evident when he steps in the ring with calzaghe that he is no longer an elite fighter. for the record i enjoy watching floyd box but i'm not a big fan of his. i just think the more rounded talent who has crossed into the mainstream this year beating an ATG and linear champ in the process deserves it more. panties didn't shame himself in the floyd fight showing he still had something left in the tank and for floyd to make the jump in weight makes the win all the more impressive. i quite like pavlik as well and he's had a good year but i happen to believe floyd's work has been more impressive. seriously though, miranda is pretty average. nice power, but lacks so much in the way of boxing skills.
Gotcha again. So go ahead & tell me Ricky Hatton is loaded with boxing skills??? See! Your not gonna win this arguement. Kelly Pavlik was ****in robbed of FOTY & you know it!
Okay, but a year ago Pavlik wasn't even considered a top contender. Now he's Middleweight champion. The guy knocked out Taylor, whereas Winky and Hopkins both tried and failed. Money Mayweather on the other hand beat an ancient De La Hoya by split decision, a fight he was expected to win. Not to forget the Hatton KO which is really impressive, until you consider Collazo almost did the same thing to Hatton not but a year before. Floyd won two fights he was expected to win, Pavlik brutally knocked out two opponents who were expected to beat him. Case Closed as far as I'm concerned.
I dont think anyone has said Hatton's in the Roberto Duran class. He is just a good quality boxer. One doth protest too much.
hatton isn't the most skilled boxer around but has other tools to make up for it. he is extremely quick at closing space to allow him to get in close where he does his best work, has underrated slipping and ducking ability when making his move onto his man, has one of the best body attacks in boxing today, that left hook to the body is ****ing mean, a strong jaw and boundless stamina and has freakish physical strength that wears his opponents down . on a P4P level he is way ahead of miranda and has achieved far more in the game.
I happen to disagree. Two "close" fights with mediocre oponants can't even hold a candle to schooling De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton with ease. Just because Mayweather made it look easy, dosn't mean it was any easier than beating the hype-jobs Jermaine Taylor or Edison Miranda. And Pavlik did nothing in the way of dominating either fighter. He barley survived 2 rounds with Taylor, and will likley be knocked out in a rematch. I mean i like the guy, but he kinda got lucky there.
Great response, ESPN, Ring Magazine, and Yahoo Sports(all unbiased organizations) are all jerkoffs who don't know what they're talking. However, biased Pavlik fans on boxing message boards have all the answers when it comes to FOTY? I don't think so, it doesn't work that way. Kelly Pavlik is a good fighter, who had a good year. However, it wasn't better than Cotto or Mayweather's year. No need to keep complaining about it, just accept it.
ahhhhh yes of course, those famous KO artists winky and hopkins. bull**** judging at a GBP promotions fight, what a suprise. oh and DLH was heavily fancied by a shitload of people round here to be way too strong and powerful for floyd. ....and hatton pulled the UD out. collazo is a monster of a WW in size and a southpaw, hatton has always struggled with southpaws. that's fine, you give kelly the 'selfkill FOTY award', floyd can put his real awards on his mantlepiece.
I agree about Hattons body attack, but WHERE THE HELL WAS the night he fought Floyd??? It was non-existant!!! And don't tell me PBF is too shifty. He was right there in front of Hatton all night. :-(
because floyd is extremely sly on the inside and neutralised all of hatton's strengths. a left hook to the body is possibly the hardest shot to land on floyd.
