As opposed to the 190 + for his previous fight (martinez beat him fair and square and a tip of the hat). he's been w/ a nutritionist and seems to be very serious about making another run at it. even y'all who don't like him will admit he's very entertaining when he's on his game. his next opponent isnt a world beater but whatever...just glad he's getting back in the ring.
Even if I don't hold him in the highest regard I like watching Kelly fight. Just get him in the ring and win or lose he's entertainment.. all this outside the game B.S. is just that.
well 11 lbs in 2 months is more than managable and should mean he'll be as good as he can be. the 164 thing is kind of useless unless they are just testing how low he can go with an eye on other mw fights...which i'm sure is what they are doing since it was reported he wanted sturm next.
id like to see him mix it up at 168 there are some great fights to be made at that weight. hes brave as hell and always has a punchers chance who is training him now? best thing for him would be to leave Mr Loew and go into a camp somewher
all due respect to jack loew but is he capable of taking pavlik onto another level? even changing it up? double jab right hand kelly can only go so far he would be be best going into camp well away from youngstown. maybe california and joe goosen or something like that? its interesting to hear that he is interested in going back to 160, as martinez is still there and there are a lot of good young technical fighters with good movement that could give pavlik trouble a fight at 168 with froch would sell well (depending on frochs next 1/2 fights i suppose) as would a big fight at 175 with jean pascal (assuming he takes care of hopkins) but i think ward and bute would be too slick for him
Pavliks 15 minutes are up specially with the young crop of MWs coming up. He will definately be a tough gatekeeper but thats all he can be with his skills and power. I actually think he might pick up a belt from a Sturm type of fighter but he will never reign MW again.
i hear ya. its my understanding that kelly was initially intent on moving up but that arum came forward the idea of staying at mw. this is when the whole jcc jr thing came up. this was arum's idea of putting to well known mexican fighters on the same card at cowboys stadium (the other being margo of course)...but kelly gave an unqualified "if" in regards to the weight. so...i think this is sort of a test flight w/ the nutritionist. if all goes well here, i'm sure they are looking at sturm at 160 and if he doesnt feel like he can go any lower...then i'm sure they will move up to 168. but yeah...there are some good fights at 168.
you are right to point out that there are plenty of young guns coming up. however, none have fought anyone like kelly and a lot of them are, as of now, full of promise and that's it. some may not pan out while others will. jacobs was one of the most hyped. i'm still pulling for the kid and think he can rebound but still. kelly will always have a punchers chance at mw so long as he can make it safely.
nah, that's not his rumored vice. he used to come into camp around 175 when he was in his run up to the title. its the weights he laid off. he's a big kid and can put on weight with the quickness if he's not careful...hence the nutritionist.
