How would he have fared against say a Froch, GGG, Abraham etc... Do u think he never really reached his potential or actually over achieved? Are the MW Cooney comparisons fair?
I always liked Pavlik. He came across as knowledgeable, humble and articulate. He was a basic1,2,3 fighter but was very good with those basics. He also had a solid chin and good recuperative powers. He outfought Miranda at a time when Miranda was considered a beast and definitively ended Taylor’s disappointing middleweight title reign. Hopkins couldn’t clearly beat Taylor but Kelly stopped him. Kelly seemed to be his own worst enemy with his drinking. They say it takes more to stay on top than it does to reach it and that seems to be the case with Kelly. Maybe he kept Jack Loew too long or maybe with his drinking it wouldn’t have mattered... Either way, he was fun to have for the time he lasted and I hope he’s doing good now.
Hes rich. Hes a little punch drunk but still in good health. His kids are well off. His town loves him. Nothing else matters.
Cool dude.. Miss him fighting. Too bad he fkd up his career.. very basic fighter with really good power.. Im guessing he saved up and invested some of that money he made. The Martinez fight was a very tough loss for him.. That and the drinking took a lot out of him.. forgot to add he shouldve gotten rid of Lowe when he had the chance
