Pavlik mentioned over and over he has to be careful with Lockett. But ya, thanks for the input. I liked when he said he beat Zertuche in Eliminator, then they said he'd have to fight Miranda, and he said what's next?? Do I have to fight Godzilla to get the shot at Taylor?
Lockett's explosive with that power too and has a good chance to win. My only problem with Lockett Is he's tuned up on too many journeyman.
Gary is a hard working guy, but Kelly is just in another league, he will knock him out within 6 rounds. Kelly deserve this fight, he's been on a roll lately, but after this he needs to get a big fight again, to be appealing.
Yeah. Without the film, that is all we have to go on. Look at Kelly's opponents up through Taylor. Stepping up. Lockett may get to spar some with JC, but it's not quite the same. I remember a pro basketball coach saying that kids coming in from college are usually overwhelmed by the step up in defence because they haven't faced that level in collge. Maybe the same anology here. We'll just have to wait and see.
kelly pavlik is IMO one of the coolest fighters i know! even when he´s hurt,he never panik.and i truely hope he will be champ for years. gary lockett, is a ko puncher, and got he´s chance...but..i think pavlik will do as usual, come foreward throwing punches, and after 8-9 hard rounds the rocket will burn out....tko 9
I think the Pavlik's handlers took this fight for 2 important reasons. 1) Enco Calzaghe is Locketts trainer so it sets up Joe with kelly and gives kelly some publicity in europe. 2) Lockett's style. Hes smaller then pavlik and he likes to brawl. Im willing to bet the Pavlik camp feels no one can beat kelly in a brawl. Especially a smaller guy. The only guys who have a chance against Pavlik are guys who can box.
Simpler than that. Dumb**** Lorenzo priced himself out of a title shot (and now will face Abraham for less I'm sure) and Lockett was the other mandatory. None are big-name fighters but they want to be paid like one, Dunkin said. Were trying to get it where they all stop thinking theyre worth so much money, Dunkin said. These guys should be happy for the opportunity. The high asking price was created by John Duddy, Dunkin said. Duddy was expected to fight Pavlik on that date at Madison Square Garden before sustaining cuts around both eyes in his recent bout. Lorenzo was being mentioned as a possible undercard fighter for a Duddy-Pavlik bout, possibly against IBF champion Arthur Abraham of Germany, who has never fought in the United States.
Yea i guess thats a better point, but doesnt Pavlik have an optional defence or did he use that already with the taylor rematch?
Even though I am a huge Pavlik fan, and everyone knows it, Lockett seems like the type of guy you hate to see lose. It would be difficult to point out two more likable guys in boxing. Boo
Yep. Even if he doesn't win, this fight could put him on the map at 160 though. I wish him well, but just short of a win against Pavlik. In this case I wouldn't mind see him doing well enough that the Pavlik haters would have ammo.
