Kelly Pavlik H2H vs. the Super Six

Where does Pavlik get all this hype from? what has he done to be classed as so superior to say Froch?

Pavlik vs. Abraham: Abraham KO
Pavlik vs Dirrell: Dirrell UD/TKO
Pavlik vs Green: Pavlik SD
Pavlik vs Kessler: Kessler UD

 

You keep repeating this line in all of these Pavlik at 168lbs threads. Will you ever ever learn to judge fighters on their skills?

 

I think Pavlik would beat Green and Froch. He could beat Kessler and Abraham. Both would be good competitive fights IMO. If forced to pick I would take Pavlik. Ward would win by comfy decision. Dirrell is the worst matchup in the S6 IMO, and would win wide UD.

 

Dirrell is improving by leaps and bounds. It will not surprise me if he beats Ward, and goes on to win the whole thing. However, up to this point he shown very little ability to deal with pressure fighters.

 

I agree about Dirrell's future, and he could beat Ward. Of all the SMWs I think Pavlik matches up worst with Dirrell. That includes Bute.

 

I'm sketchy on the situation. If you watch Dirrell/Hanshaw, and Dirrell/Froch it's clear that Andre does not like to be pressured. Dirrell did stop Hanshaw, but he was far from impressive in the early going. He arguably beat Froch, but that fight was a god-awful slop fest.

When KP gets in his groove he is much better at keeping the heat turned up than Froch or Hanshaw. As of right now I think the best version of Pavlik would have a good chance of stopping Dirrell in 11 or 12. However, unless I'm way off the mark, by the end of the tourney, AD will be significantly better than he is today, and to be honest, I have no idea what KP has left in the tank.

 

Personally, I think the move up in weight will revitalize him. To what extent, I don't know.

As for Dirrell, I think he wasn't ready for such a big stage with Froch. I think there may have been a question of self doubt. But, he was clearly the superior fighter and showed good skills when he actually chose to use them that night. I think a different Dirrell came to fight vs AA and I expect more of the same in the future. However, he wouldn't be the 1st fighter with good skills to leave his potential at the ring apron.

 

You guys think Pavlik can handle Green's power? I think he would put Pavlik to sleep. He has enough boxing skills and movement to throw Pavlik off.

 

People can scoff if they want, but I would like to see KP skip right over 168, and move to 175. It's not about the level of competition. It's about training methods. Most people are probably not aware of it, but Pavlik's traing methods have changed considerably. Before the Rubio fight he stopped doing the more extreme things; the tire flipping, SUV pushing, hammer swinging, et, and cut way back on weight training. He had to because those things add to much muscle mass.

After the Espino fight he complained of "muscle weariness," and said he wasn't go to let that happen again. Immediately after the holidays he went back to the gym for weight and strength training, and his weight jumped to 192 pounds. At the beginning of camp for Martinez he was a solid 186 pounds, and had to bust his ass and hire an outside nutritionist just to get under 170. I feel that if he tries to fight at 168, he'll be right back in the same boat he was in at 160 before long.

 

Incredible how people go from considering Pavlik one of the best, P4P top 10, to placing him in the garbage, with a couple of losses to top of the world boxers.

Pavlik is still a pretty good fighter, I think he would beat Green and climb the ring on even terms against Froch, Dirrel and possibly Kessler, but he would have ugly losses against Abraham and Ward.

 

I really would like to know what fantasy world you live in?

Pavlik loses to all of them, except Green. And even beating Green isnt a lock.
