After a 2009 that was basically lost to injury, he's back & ready to rumble. Everyone here thought Zertuche would be too tough, Miranda would smash him & Taylor was just too good. Hell, he beat B Hop twice! And KP past all those tests with flying colors. Well, here we go again with most saying Martinez is gonna do a number on Kelly. I don't think so... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxMK0Iv1LAQ&feature=player_embedded[/ame] Martinez is going down!!!:bbb
Kelly will be ok hopefully, a bad loss against a small light middleweight is a bad rep for him. Unfortunately for Kelly, I think Martinez is a rugged technician, and even if Kelly wins, it won't come easy.
I think Kelly will have an easier time with Martinez than Williams did. I've watched that fight a couple of times now. My guess would be that Kelly lands something that makes Sergio realize what he is up against and SM turns it into a stinker by running and surviving the rest of the fight trying to throw in a few potshots to save face.
I am not sure Pavlik will ever be able to forget the Hopkins fight. He didn't lose a SD he lost easily and onesided to a guy in his 40s.
The problem with Kelly trying to use this fight to "prove" anything is that it will only prove that he can beat 7 shades of **** out of small middleweights who have suspect stamina and leaky defense. No one ever doubted his ability to do that. The real issue is that right now Sergio Martinez is seriously over rated. After the fight people will realize that, and KP will get zero credit for the win.
Thats true. I expect KP to lose some rounds early on. But as it progresses, I also expect Martinez to get caught & he'll be finished.
I understand that point of view but Sergio does have good foot speed and Kelly won't lunge in trying to catch him like Williams did. One thing to cut of the ring for someone that is there to fight and another to try and cut off the ring when someone is in 'run' mode. One reason Kelly is seen as a 'plodder' is because he maintains his defensive position. Even when he has someone hurt he keeps his hands up and works patiently. Sergio got Williams to abandon defense to try and land, Kelly is more disciplined.
