What are his obvious flaws? Not trying to provoke anything, but I'd like someone's opinion on what Pavlik does wrong. I havn't seen him fight much (just Taylor I+II and Miranda).
I wouldn't say he is easy to hit. his defence has improved considerably since the Zertuche fight a few years ago. His parrying of punches is really good and he moves his head well. He does get hit with shots, yes, but h has a good chin so it's not a huge issue. As for the "down 4 times" line, who cares? He proved against Miranda what kind of chin he's got. Sure, he's been knocked down even against mediocre punchers like Taylor, but he's took them and come back to win. It's not a issue at this stage.
what are his flaws? and who in your opinion is highly skilled opponent? Slap punching 36 year old joe calzaghe?
He brings his left right back to his chin to block the counter right. This is exactley what you are taught in every boxing gym in america. He throws mixed up combinations to the head and body, his combinations are well timed and decieving. You really dont know when that right hand of his is going to be thrown, whether its thrown as a 1-2 off the jab, or off the left hook, or of a left hook feint then straight right. he mixes everything up. He is far from predictable not sure what you mean
Yes, he would be Pavlik's worst nightmare in terms of styles. I think the style matchup with Kessler would be very intriguing. Hopkins right hand counter would land all night long.
I disagree, Pavlik is calzaghes worst nightmare. Here is a young hungry kid, who has the punching cabalities in both hands to knockout calzaghe. He has the size, the jab and skills to make calzaghe pay coming in. He has the punchrate, stamina, to be able to keep up with calzaghes workrate on the inside, and hurt calzaghe. Calzagghes slaps will have little to no effect on pavlik.
Hopkins is 44 years old. hes done now. 3 years ago he couldnt even beat jermaine taylor in 2 oppertunities, who pavlik beat twice.
The punches don't have to have an effect - he just needs to win more rounds than Pavlik. Calzaghe has taken punches from heavier hitters than Pavlik and he still has zero in his losses column. A defensive boxer is Calzaghe worst nightmare. An aggressor like Pavlik is exactly what he loves. Calzaghe's best performances have come against opposition who come to him with reputations as big punchers. Watch how many times Calzaghe gets tagged by a jab in a fight. You probably won't need to go into double figures. Kelly sets everything up through his jab. Kessler who happens to have the best jab in and around the middleweights couldn't get it going - Pavlik won't buck that trend.
x beat y 3 years ago so z would win? Completely ridiculous point. I maintain that Hopkins would hit Pavlik with a right hand over and over again - 44 years old or not.
