Apart from the occassional "fat drunk" most alcoholics are under weight and malnourished. I' not saying I know for sure he won't ever fight at 160 again. However, I'd be surprised to see it. I'd be less surprised to see him at 175. Obviously I'm not a world class athlete, but when I got sober I put on 20 pounds of muscle in just a few months without even trying.
Hopefully he fights a ring rust fight, a tune up fight, and then challenges a top 10 guy at the end of the year. He has "comeback of the year" written all over him. Weren't there hardcore Pavlik vs. Bute rumors going around? I'm sure Showtime would love that before Bute vs. S6 winner. And it is seriously ****ed up to talk **** about Pavlik FOR HIS ALCOHOLISM. Hate him because you hate his style, trainer/promoter/team, he beat your fav fighter, or his fanbase annoys you. But not because he's hooked on drinking. That's no fun. Lots of us have been there, and I'd wish it on no one.
Hope he pulls his stuff together. Maybe straight back to training is the best thing but in the meantime he really has to focus to stay clean.
I always think Pav is getting underrated by a lot of posters here... His only 2 losses were UD to LHW #2 B-Hop at 10lbs above his normal weight, and a UD in a tough fight against the #1 MW, and FOTY Sergio Martinez. Although both losses are far away from shameful (B-Hop seems to have found a cure for old age), he's getting ridiculed by a lot of fans. Don't think it's really fair!
Love them when they win, kick them in the stomack when they are down - these are the boxing fans unfortunately. Some bashing of course was related to certain posters who arrogantly defended Kelly while dragging down his opposition not realizing they did the most harm for Pavlik.
you KNOW Arum is Licking his Lips thats def mannys next fight lined up a. top rank fighter b. lots of time out of the ring c. alcohol / weight problems d. tall / slow lanky fighter with poor defence e. will struggle to make 160 f. catch weight / re-hydration clause immediatley dealdealdeal roach and arum will be ejaculating over this news
The thread title threw me off. I thought you were going to say he just beat his records for most beers in one sitting, my bad. On a serious note good, I hope the man gets his **** together, ****ing hate it when people **** away talent.
Pavlik is the relapse king. He turns to alcohol every time he loses. He just needs to except the fact that in this game, with the style he has, he will win some & lose some. He just cant handle a loss. I'm sure he's highly motivated now & ready to get in the ring, but once he loses again. he may drink away the pain again
Where Pavlik chooses to live now will be critical of just how determined he is to get his career back on track. The farther away from Youngstown the better.
