Leaving Youngstown would not benefit Pavlik one God Damn bit. I've known bartenders with successful recovery. I've known Gypsie Jokers (A Hells Angels affiliate club) who got sober while riding with the club. When I got sober I lived across the street from a tavern, and ate there 2 or 3 times a week. I also know two sober beer truck drivers! The external environment means ****-all. It's the internal environment that matters.
diaz is better than leow but not the greatest, obviously its too late to change anything in pavlik but a trainer who could slightly tweak him and have some great gameplans ready would help such as a kenny adams, pat burns, manny steward also i remember nazim richardson saying he would be willing to train pavlik.
Too late he wasted his best yeasr and abused his body which will now not do what it once could. he is shot it's over he has had his time. Pavlik now is and forever will be a gatekeeper. T'is what it t'is.
I agree 100%. My best friend has a drinking problem and there's nothing anyone can do to change that until he decides he wants to take control. People were quick to write off Pavlik's career, but I think if he can give up drinking and be in control of himself he'll reestablish himself as a top 5 MW/SMW by this fall. Heck, giving how Martinez is struggling to find an opponent for March...
I know everyone is saying he went to rehab for alcohol and he is getting out of rehab tomorrow. Which, I honestly believe it was only for alcohol because in post fight and pre fight tests, if it was anything else, wouldn't it have came up? Some people have suggested coke. How long do you think it will take before he can fight again?
I know it's a bit off-topic, but isn't it very challenging to eat in a tavern or to have friends around you who are drinking liquor or beer? Of course your own will is what counts, but isn't it more difficult if you are exposed to such situations?
Trying to beat alcoholism with will power is about as effective as trying to beat diarhea with prune juice! Alcoholics are not "weak willed." If you think they are, watch one when he gets an idea in his head, and you will quickly change your mind. An alcoholic faces a two fold problem. It is both psychological and physical. Will power does not work because an alcoholic has a mental obsession with alcohol. You can think of an "obsession" as an idea so powerful that it drives out all other ideas. Once the thought of drinking occurs to an untreated alcoholic, he's ****ed. He needs to get rid of the obsession. No one really knew how to deal with alcoholism prior to the inception of Alcoholics Anonymous. Nearly every succsessful treatment modality is based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. The 12 steps are designed to facilitate a "spiritual awakening," or if you'd rather, "a complete psychic change." That relieves the obsession. Will power will never do anything other than provide a bit of time to save money for the next drunk!
You guys know that at least one person around here is going to keep a close eye on the situation:yep Here's a bit of fresh info: Pavlik senior and Cameron Dunkin told KP to take it slow and not worry about boxing right now. Pav doesn't want to hear that. Boxing is all he talks about. During his stay at Betty Ford, Pavlik has been running and working out 4-6 hours per day. Arum offered Pavlik a spot on the Pac/Mosely card. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=5984682
Based on that ESPN article, 160 may very well be possible for KP. No booze, running, lifting weights and likely eating healthy at Betty Ford for the last two months. He's probably hovering around 170 as we speak.
