Kelly Pavlik is done.

Pavlik is not quite done, but hes definitely done as a top tier PPV draw

 

OK, while your raise some good points, I come to a very different conclusion:

Kelly was always technically limited and when he had his best run with wins over Zertuche, Miranda, Taylor, he overcame his limitations with confidence, keeping his composure under pressure and accumulative power. At that time he also faced opponents who simply weren't good enough to exploit Pavlik's weaknesses.

IF Kelly had spent those prescious years after winning the title from Taylor with imporving his skills, enhancing his arsenal, working on his defense etc. , he could have become a great fighter and be up there with the current best at 168. Instead, he abused his body, which most likely made him more prone to those infections, became greedy with fighting Hopkins when he wasn't ready for it. I also would think that a boxer with a trade - happy stlye like Kelly, killing even more brain cells with alcohol, losehis reflexes much sooner than from boxing and age alone. Instead of improving after age 25, Kelly's task now is to get back to the level where he once was and that level most likely wouldn't be enough against Kessler, Froch, Ward, Dirrell.

 

Lopez is an unbeaten fighter and people are talking rubbish about Pavlik for beating him after a long lay-off. Lopez could yet prove to be a really good fighter so don't get too critical yet.

 

Id love to see Kelly after some input from a world class trainer, gotta be better for him then the double ****in' jab

 

It seems to me all the battles he's been in have caught up with him. He doesnt seem to take a punch as well, and he's not as aggressive or determined in the ring anymore.

 

Watching Lopez it was obvious he had studied the Hopkins fight 1000 times because he was trying the exact same thing. In that sense the blueprint is out on Kelly.

I hope he has some more tune ups. If he takes it slow he can be a force again

Lopez came in and did well i only had Pavlik winning by two rounds and while lopez is an unknown quantity he did well.
I know they mentioned it the commentary Lopez had been up at 175 but he pushed Kelly around a lot in the fight. Kelly has always been able to out strength guys and throw them back out to range - he barely landed the jab all night and Lopez was at time walking forward in a straight line and catching Kelly with decent shots.
At 168 the strength advantage he has just isnt going to be there he needs a few tune ups
Id get ride of lowe as well he always says the same thing use the jab use the jab sometimes u need something else

Pavlik doesn't have that pop he did have in the Taylor fights. I don't know why people think Pavlik is going to be remotely competitive with the elite of 168.

Pavlik is absolutely done at the top. It's sad, because he a breathe of fresh air when he on top of his game.

Hopkins has ruined this guy, and Martinez finished him off.

Pavlik will n ever be the same fighter again, Period.

 

When Kelly threw the bottle in the garbage,he should have done the same thing with his trainer.The Pavlik which just fought is done like dinner and has no passion for the sport anymore.:-(

 

Never rated Pavlik and he looked crap at the weekend not sure he even deserved the win to be honest..he landed a few better punches dont know the stats but I thought Lopez was busier.

As soon as he gets in with a decent super middle he'll get blown out of there.

Actually his defense is pretty good. The main defensive weakness that he has is that he doesn't step back when an opponent flurries.

It's his offensive limitations that are giving him trouble.

 

Seriously dude can you explain how his defense is 'pretty good'. I may be completely wrong but it looked abysmal on Saturday. He was not blocking much of anything
