Pavlik is an entertaining fans fighter who seeks out the best and comes to fight. Boxing badly needs a guy like this, as they are far and few between from middle weight to heavyweight.

I suppose David Haye qualifies, but unfortunetely he's stuck in the cruiserweight division and people in general don't follow cruiser weights. Too bad, they should, and lately cruiserweights have been putting on great shows. Enjoy Haye while he lasts. I think he has suspect whiskers and will not last if he moves up to heavyweight.

Back to Pavlik, he's only 25 years old. He is one of the few unified champions ( WBC, and WBO ) in boxing. Is Pavlik the next great middle weight? I’m leaning towards yes.

For all time great consideration , Kelly has a good start thats for sure. Two wins over Taylor, and a big KO over Miranda isn't chopped liver. He seems to be impeccibly conditioned, always prepared with a sensible fightplan, is rangy with a big punch, and isn't afraid to get punched in the nose.Longevity will be the deciding factor, and if he continues to fight on a high level, he just may be a Hall of Fame Canidate ten years from now.

Great posts so far gentlemen. I must be honest, when I first saw the thread title I was skeptical and figured I would open this thread just to read more "bull ****" about Pavlik. I agree with you guys completely.

He's still VERY young and off to one hell of a start.

BTW, Mendoza I ejnoy David Haye's fights quite a bit as well. He hits like a Mack Truck.

A few more wins and a few more belts and he will be an ATG, especially if he manages to retire undefeated.

Haye is fun to watch. In fact the cursier weight divison has been very good. Un-defeated Russian prospect Alex Alexevv might be the best prospect in boxing, and he's a cursier too.

    Talented enough, not really.

He could still manage it depending on who they match him up with

He has the power and heart to become an all time great, and power is a skill people don't understand that.

you're from milwaukee, too, huh? what side? i'm in bayview.
anyway, with all time great middleweights, i'm not so sure...we're talking about guys like hagler, hearns, leonard, robinson and so forth...i think if pavlik did manage it, he'd be further down the list.

ATG is a long way away, but there's no saying he couldn't reach it down the road. He first must fight some great fighters and beat them. Taylor's a hell of a fighter, but when you're mentioning names like Hagler, Pavlik hasn't even begun to approach that level of greatness. Another problem for Pavlik is that the competition isn't anywhere near as good as the days of Hagler. He and Abraham are the talent at 160, with Taylor having moved up. Calzaghe's soon to retire, which basically leaves Kessler and Bute at 168. And I don't think he has the defense, frame or the chin to take on LHWs.

Yes, he's only had 2 title fights and has to go back to the gym and fine tune his skills. I think 5 or 6 title defenses and maybe a title at 168-175 would solidify his status as an all-time great. He might be too tough for alot of these guys out there. He has a great chin, a great jab, and a strong right hand that stops you in your tracks, and he determined as hell.

I don't see Pavlik losing at middleweight ...
He might not retire undefeated thats pretty difficult but at the same time I don't think that Kelly has shown the public all of his skills. I wonder if Pavlik can get on his toes and box w/ good movement.
