Kelly Pavlik, Lucian Bute Double Header April 17th on HBO? Green-Bika in jeopardy?

    According to the scene Top Rank and Lou Dibella had a meeting this morning discussing a Pavlik-Martinez fight, which went well..though a deal was not reached. HBO would like to feature Pavlik in the main event and Bute in the co-feature. It doesn't specify if this would be a split-site double header or not. But they also went on to add that Lou Dibella wasn't crazy with the date since it would be going head to head with Showtime's Super 6 (Kessler-Froch, Ward vs. TBA), but felt couldn't turn down the offer for Martinez.

    The article also mentioned Green-Bika may be in jeopardy, since there seems to be some troubles on Bika's end and not to be surprised if that fight falls through and Team Bute tries to lure Green into a fight.

    I like Bika, and I never root for guys who get a good fight not to be able to go through with it.

    That said, it's for the best if Green-Bute somehow gets made to determine Jermain's replacement.

    Would HBO want Bute-Green as part of the Pavlik double-header though? Presumably the point of the double-header would be for the winners to meet in the future?

    If Bute-Green becomes a de-facto elimination fight for the Super 6 though, why would HBO want to televise it so the winner can go straight to Showtime? The fact they want this proposed card to go head-to-head with the Super 6 shows that they want it to fail.

    This would be great. A Pavlik-Bute doubleheader excites me, even if Bute's probably not going to get to face the world's best opposition due to circumstances.

    If Bika can't make it for February 5, they'll probably just give the spot to Green. Green will probably still fight a late replacement on Showtime, some patsy just to show off his punching power. There wouldn't be enough time to make a Bute-Green fight.

    Pavlik and Bute on the same card looks like a way of promoting a future fight between the two. I figured HBO would push harder for Pavlik-Williams since Williams is becoming a staple on the channel and Bute's been on once. Miranda seems to be the logical choice for Bute on that date. If Green-Bika falls through I see Green joining the Super Six with the gauranteed two big fights instead of only one with Bute. Stieglitz and Bika both lack the name and buzz that Miranda has. If Pavlik and Bute both fight quality opponents then this would be a good double header.

    It wouldn't be to determine Taylor's replacement. Green wold go that way instead of joining the super 6. Nothing is a done deal I suppose.

    I think they probably did. I'm sure Kelly prefers that fight but it takes two....
