Kelly Pavlik has the highest KO percentage ever for an undefeated Middleweight Champion. To really put Pavlik in Context: his KO percentage after 32 fights is better than former middleweight champs Hagler, Leonard, Duran, Robinson, LaMotta, Julian Jackson, Roy Jones, James Toney,,, basically everybody. Even more interesting is the fact that his KO percentage after 32 fights is better than Heavyweight KO artists like Marciano, Tyson, Frazier, Foreman, Lewis, Louis etc. Some people say "who has he fought?". Well considering that his 3 opponents for 2007 had a combined record of 74-4-1 and none of them had ever been knocked out... well I guess that answers that question. It answers the question with an exclamation point in that Pavlik was the first person to Knock out all 3 of his 2007 opponents. He was the first person to beat the very crafty and hard hitting Jermain Taylor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QJwtmv86x8 To go one step further... Pavlik beat Miranda, Miranda beat Green, Miranda beat Eastmon, Miranda whooped up on Abraham. Pavlik beat Taylor, Taylor beat Hopkins twice and Hopkins had beaten Trinidad and is the only person to KO De La Hoya. Is this line of reasoning far reaching? Not really because none of the people I just associated to Pavlik opponents would take the chance to fight Pavlik. The only one I respect is Taylor because he put his title on the line and now he's going to get back into the ring. After the Taylor re-match people are going to duck Kelly like crazy. It won't be his fault that a bunch of pitty pat punching 30 year olds and 40 year olds will avoid him . Can you blame them? Pavlik is probably the most devastating puncher of the last 20 years.
Jones had a higher KO percentage than Pavlik as an unbeaten MW champion. Jones was 22-0 with 20ko's when he became MW champion. His KO percentage is higher for 32 fights than those guys, but he doesn't have the highest KO percentage of an unbeaten MW champion. And after 32 fights, Julian Jackson had the same KO percentage, but wasn't unbeaten. Of course, he lost to an ATG. All I'm saying is it's cool to be a fan. But don't toss around statements like "Most devastating puncher of the last 20 years", talk about other fighters not having done what he's done, and be wrong. Those guys are top notch, and it sounds like you're saying Pavlik has somehow surpassed them in some way. Perhaps I'm wrong and reading into it.
I like watching Pavlik fight, but the over-hyping of him on here since that Taylor fight is mental. Most devastating puncher of the last 20 years??? Where the **** did that statement come from?
You mean I've said a white champion isn't the best ever and you agree with me  Fair do's, outside of Klitschko threads I'm your pal :rasta You **** Oh and on Pavlik - tremendous fighter, has made the most of what he's got and deserves full credit for beating a champion who is/was better than he was given credit for. Taylor obviously didn't have the best of chins but had what I'd call an 8 or 9 out of 10 offense and Pavlik had to break Taylors heart to win that fight, the kid did great. Would he beat prime Jones or Hopkins? I doubt it, but there's no shame in that.
You guys gotta admit though, there is something special about a guy who knocks out three guys with good records who have never been KOed back to back to back.
Stop being so rational ! Oh and for the record the same defence I make for VLAD I also make for LL ! no need for race to be brought up ! :deal Now go **** yourself :yep ! PS whern did you start crediting white fighters ?:hey
If you'd known me for a while you'd know my favourite fighters list includes the likes of Buchanan, Sibson, Colin Jones, Watt, McGuigan etc etc etc, I know they ain't the greatest but I grew up supporting them. I don't care what a fighters skin colour is, hand on heart. Unless they're a Klitschko, obviously.
Pav's accumulation is devastating and he's been quoted as saying so. Pav has reached the big's now and with it comes intense scrutinizing of his achievements and record, along with haters. All part of the biz. But Pav himself would tell you he's not the biggest puncher of the last 20 years and in doing so you have only given detractor's ammo and reason to down on Pav.
No, you're right. He deserves great credit for that win. His competition has been pretty good, while not off the charts. Beating Taylor, who I think was better than many gave credit, was excellent and a good way to start his title reign. I want a dominant champion in the storied MW division and if Pavlik is that guy, excellent. But saying he has set a record that he hasn't, then stating that he is the most devastating puncher of the past 20 yrs in the way its stated (showing the names of fighters who he has higher KO percentage than, and then making the final statement) just looks like complete overkill.
100% correct (in my opinion, of course) I hope he has a long reign, boxing needs champions like him - but I wouldn't rule out Taylor beating him in a rematch. I'd favour Pavlik but I suspect Taylor 2nd time round won't be the pushover a lot of people seem to think he is.
Ya know what I like about your post/thread reply?? it's like you qre trying to protect Kelly It sounds like you qre trying to prevent pavlik from getting nut-huggers, and turn him into the target of haters threads and posts..nice job
That is true. Though, he has shown that he has the capability of eventually being regarded perhaps as one of, if not the, best middleweight KO artist ever. Truly, he could be something really really special, and though nuthuggers are annoying and shouldn't be indulged, we can't rule out the possibility that he might be the best knockout guy in MW history. OBVIOUSLY he hasnt shown that he is yet, but he hasn't had the opportunity to yet. It can take an entire career to get those sort of accolades, but he is off to a good start.
