Pavlik seems to think he can sit at home and wait for the big money offers to roll in. That is not going to happen. He has totally destroyed his own credibility over the last couple of years. No one is going to want to deal with him.

If he sits for a year, boxing in general will have moved on, and Pavlik will be best remembered as a guy you can't trust. He's more likely to pull out of a fight than he is to make it to the ring. That's what promoters and networks will remember best.

Pavlik should have just considered Cunningham an over paid sparring partner, and went in and knocked him out in 3 or 4 rounds. I've seen all the video on Cunningham that is available. Trust me. Rubio would beat him with ease.

After beating Cunningham, Pavlik would have two wins along the comeback trail, and could sit back and analyze things. Maybe have a sit down with Top Rank, and lay out a plan that did not involve fighting Bute in Montreal for short money, but that is obviously not what he did.

What Pavlik did was display more drama, and erratic behavior. The guy provides more "What The ****" moments than Zab Judah and Mike Tyson combined! He was in a position where he could take his time and rebuild his career and reputation in several different ways. After this latest fiasco he'll be lucky if he can schedule a four rounder on FNF.

Thanks for commentating. Disappointed as you are, but whats the problem as you see it. Boxing, fame, promoter or personal issues?.

Hermit ever commentating on the subject, or maybe he got a new roommate in Pavlik - (in the cave).....:blood

The consensus is right imo, you don't get the big bucks to rebuild. To put into context, johnson v mack was a bigger fight than this was and I don't think they got 50k between them.

With profits he could have been on 2mil altogether with this and the bute fight. What's even more baffling is all the expenses have been incurred already, he's had a full camp for it already, the fighting bit was the easy part from his pov.

Well against Bute he is bound to get an L and an ass kicking as well so he wants to cash out as much as possible.

I agree with you on that. He was exagerating the value he has now and forgetting that HBO doesn't put millions in his fights anymore but he wasn't expecting to lose and cash out. A fighter doesn't think that way. Different thing for Arum.

It's a disappointing outcome as it is, but when you realize that Kelly's had beef with Winky Wright, it seems downright insane that Kelly then follows up and makes the same mistakes Winky made in his career as far as dropping fights if the numbers aren't fantastic.

As a prize fighter, you don't get paid by not fighting. Maybe if you were a heavyweight champ in the early 1900's, but certainly not as a middleweight on the comeback trail.

The same rules don't apply for a dry toast fighter like Winky Wright as Kelly Pavlik.

As for your theory that you have to fight to get paid, two words, Floyd Mayweather.

kelly pavlik is not floyd mayweather.

it is a facile analogy to compare the earning power of an inactive kelly pavlik who hasnt done much in three years to the earning power of an inactive floyd mayweather. i'm not a big mayweather fan but it is what it is.

Pavlik can not make as much as Floyd Mayweather but he still can make a lot of money.

i don't have a copy of his contract in front of me but from i've gathered, he was offered good money to fight bute. and even if he wasnt, it doesnt explain his pulling out of the cunningham fight.

Pavlik would not have beaten Bute especially fighting in Canada, Pavlik figured that much out. Think about it Pavlik would have to win like 8 rounds to 4 against Bute to get the win and he is only 1 fight out of Rehab. Like Pavlik said he would literally have to send Bute out of the building on a stretcher to get the w. If you don't believe that take a look at the first Bute vs Andrada fight. People say that losing to Bute would be no big deal for Pavliks career. Well how come Losing to Bernard Hopkins was such a big deal then? How come losing to Sergio Martinez was such a big deal? After losing to those two fighters people are making a big deal of him walking away from a fight that would only pay him 50k.

I'm sure arum had negociated For neutral officials, don't you think. Beside, the judges are fair over here. Anyway, Bute has never needed help from the judges. You're trying to defend something bad. Good luck.

pretty much. He could have comeback soon after and learned from the loss and sharpened up and use that as experience, but I think he missed the opportunity. Now his confidence is lacking.
