Kelly Pavlik - more innocent than appears regarding the pull out

It is never fair anywhere, Pavlik would have to win a fight in Montreal big. And that was not going to happen not with the Way Pavlik looked against Lopez. Pavlik would have lost the fight to Lopez if that was Bute and if they were fighting Montreal.

 

still doesnt explain pulling out of the cunningham fight in youngstown and basically screwing over showtime while throwing your promoter AND manager under the bus.

arum didnt even want a tune up for pavlik. he agreed to it b/c jack drew a line in the sand and demanded it so bob (who i don't really like) got it all together.

this sucks all the way around. i'll always root for kelly till the end but i can't really defend anything he did. rooting for someone and defending them are two different things.

 

Sounds like you are questioning Pavliks loyalty to his promoter and manager. Maybe they have behaved in a manner that Pavlik does not want to be loyal to them anymore. Pavlik is one of the most loyal athletes there is. Married his girl friend from highschool, stayed with the same trainer since he was a boy, Kept his mom as his nutritionalist, lives in Yongstown same place he was born, He does not go to the Pokanos or places like that to train like some fighters. People think he let his home town fans down but Pavlik lives with his home town fans. He starts up business in his home town to try to help the economy like with the bar he opened up "The Thirteenth Round.

 

i still got his back! Sometimes in life you make Emotional decisions, thats what Pavlik did. Im sure if he would have looked at the WHOLE picture, he would have did what JAck Loew said to do! Knock Cunningham out, and worry about BUTE later

 

it may turn out to be a very very costly decision.

Everyone on this forum knows me and Bigbone argue all the time but the man is right pavlik does not understand he needs to re-stablish his earning potential you cannot just have $5 million fights after loosing twice badly, pulling out of numerous fights, ducking Abraham, going into rehab, bad mouthing the S6 and looking average in your last fight.

It's all Pavlik's fault! He lost to Hopkins...and? Hopkins is a legend. No shame in that. If he'd have manned up and continued fighting the good fight everything would be ok right now.

 

Pavlik has taken some of the toughest fights out of any boxer the last 4 years. How many boxers can you name that have had tougher opponents then Miranda, Taylor x2, Hopkins, Martinez in the last 4 years.

 

Valid point but it does not mean that he is entitled to 6 figure paydays against journeyman.

Top Rank laid out a fair path IMO.

 

I don't think he wants 6 figures just more then 50k for the Cunningham fight. And the path Top Rank laid out for him is bs and Pavlik called them out on the bs. I listend to the interveiw and when the interveiwer said to Pavlik that he thinks he had a good chance of beating Bute there was a long pause and then Pavlik just grunted.

 

If Pavlik beat his last opponent convincingly then yes I agree with you but he looked very average in that fight. The NBA wouldn't pay a way past prime Michael Jordan a top salary & boxing shouldn't be any different imo.

 

One fight out of rehab he is going to look a bit rusty. If Floyd Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao and lost and started drinking went into rehab got himself sober. Had one come back fight and looked a little rusty. Then was asked to fight Sergio Martinez for 1 million do you think that would be fair? Because that is the equivalent of the plan that Top Rank has laid out for Pavlik. To add insult to injury they were only going to give him 50 k to fight a tune up.

 

He beat an undefeated LHW prospect by a wide margin. If Pavlik doesn't get a stoppage it is always considered a 'loss' by posters here. Hell, even when he stops someone convincingly it doesn't count for some reason or another.

 

Not only that he gets accused of being a ducker when he had a staph infection. And he was still accused of ducking Paul Williams when he offered Paul WIlliams a 60/40 deal. Then Pavlik takes the harder fight against Sergio Martinez loses a close fight that he could have won if he was not cut. To top it off Sergio would not rematch Pavlik at a higher weight. Meanwhile when Pavlik beat Taylor he was more then happy to prove himself against Taylor at the higher weight that Taylor wanted the fight to be at.
