I see a lot of post of people saying oh P-dub should just take what ever they give him/ Kelly's the Champ. Yeah that maybe true but P-dub star is rising while Pav star has lost some luster and dropped a little.

some info i picked up from a few articles.

According to several sources, Top Rank has raised their offer to Williams. Two different numbers are being thrown around I've yet to confirm, at the present, the actual new number. From what I know, the offer still appears to be a straight buyout - with Williams and his promoter Dan Goossen receiving no percentage of the gate and/or sponsorship money [estimated at a few million between the two]. And that is the major obstacle to overcome in finalizing the deal. Obviously Goossen would like his side to get a piece of the gate and other sources of revenue generated from the fight.
Both sides have strong arguments but Williams' side is holding an ace up their sleeve. I'll get to the ace later. Top Rank argues that Pavlik is the draw, will sell the majority of the tickets and their fighter is the champion. Williams does bring a lot to table. What he brings is nearly $2 million more than HBO was willing to pay [$2 million] for Pavlik vs. Felix Sturm.
The ace in Williams' corner is more or less a guaranteed date on HBO. If Pavlik-Williams crumbles, Williams is probably going to fight on October 3, on HBO, against WBO junior middleweight champion Sergei Dzinziruk [or another HBO approved opponent]. Pavlik on the other hand is backed against a wall because there is no guarantee that he gets a date on HBO, at least in 2009. That gives Williams and Goossen an advantage in the negotiations because Pavlik has not appeared on HBO since last year's decision loss to Bernard Hopkins, and he needs to get back in the spotlight with a strong win over a strong opponent to erase the stench of the Hopkins loss. On the other side, Williams’ career would reach new heights if he were to beat the number one middleweight in the world. That would open up some heavy opportunities for Williams in the future.

So basically if Top Rank and Team Pavlickers want the fight they better come to a co-promotion deal. P-dub is a future star and will not just be brought out like some scrub. If you want a quality fighter you gotta give in. Goosen didn't invest money and promote this kid to just sell him for small change. The man has a date and a market you want him to come to 160 to fight you b/c you have no one else. Pay up.

I didn't read the whole post but i agree here. I even think Williams deserves MORE than Pavlik if they fight. Williams is an up and coming super star on a hot streak, and I don't see how people expect him to take a smaller cut in order to fight a guy who would have a huge size advantage and who's career is in a lull.

Pavlik should take the cut and fight Williams. He gets to fight a smaller guy who will bring the Pavlik name back to prominence if he wins.

HBO wants Pavlik as well as Williams. HBO were willing to prop up a fight between Pavlik and a chump before this fight was in the pipeline. So no.

    But
    1. Pavlik is more well-known
    2. Pavlik sells more seats
    3. Pavlik is the champ

That's what decides the split, not your record.

I see both sides but Kelly is the Champ. I hope they iron it out before Goose pulls the plug.

Actually some of your post is based on faulty info. The claim that Williams is Pavlik's only chance at an HBO date is Ludricrous. HBO gave Pavlik a list of 4 fighters they would approve. PW was not on the list. Pavlik nixed the list and said get me Williams, who has been talking **** about KP for over a year.

As far as the money goes Williams is a challenger with virtually no fan base. Pavlik could sell out Boardwalk Hall fighting a broomstick. The crowd in AC will be a Pavlik crowd, not a Williams crowd. The traditional champion/challenger split of 70/30 would be sufficient, except that Goosen fully understands how big the risk is. I'm sure he is fully aware of the post-pavlik careers of other fighters.

If this deal falls apart, it will be because Goosen acted like an idiot AGAIN.

It's high stakes for either man but and we should always play safe when big business is concerned. There's a but in all these situations and that is if PW is really to make a career in the MW Division like KP would... Sure, PW can put more 6 pounds on and make it as technically and slick as possible to steal this fight like Hops did but then what? Will he be able to lose 6 or 12 pounds and make other big fights at WW or LMW back again- it may not work that way that easily... On the other hand, KP doesn't need PW in particular to bring attentions back to the MW Division or to himself which is the same... The SMW will not take over and there will always be interest in one of the main divisions in the Game.

Im sick of Pavlik personally, him and his management have some big heads. They havent done **** in what, 2 years, if they cant agree to a 50/50 split they have a serious problem. Pavlik is not a bigger draw then williams, **** if pavlik doesnt land a fight soon I will completely forget about him. Wasted potentital in my opinion.

What decides the split is that if Pavlik does not fight Williams he is severley left out in the cold in a very dull 160 lb division !!!!!!

Horse****, HBO gave Pavlik a list of 4 pre-approved opponents, and Williams wasn't even on the list. Kelly is the champ. Williams is the challenger. KP can sell out Boardwalk Hall fighting almost anyone. Williams can't sell out the Aiken High School gym.

Dude, hbo gave the list but the 4 opponents they pick they won't put up the money for it. Was sturm one of the list? Yup and what hbo offer was? 2 million? In which it be 50/50 for Pavlik and Sturm? Are you kidding Sturm getting a 50 percent of a split? Wow. And according to that article if Williams vs Pavlik crumbles then Williams will get the october date with Dzin while Pavlik will still be left out of the cold with no hbo date available for him. Imo i think goosen should be apart of the co promotion for this fight to be fair cause like i said Williams still have an hbo date if the pavlik fight don't happen while pavlik again will be left out of the cold. And i won't brag about selling out in atlantic city cause in atlantic city arena it would sell out in mostly any pro fights in which it has many damn times.

The bold underline is inaccurate. That is my point. Pavlik ALEADY had an HBO date BEFORE he said he wanted Williams. Only the opponent is undecided. People keep insisting that one guy NEEDS the other, or they NEED each other. That is pure bull****. Both have other options. Pavlik/Williams is the best option for Pavlik, but it is the absolute worst option for Williams. He'll never be the same fighter.
