Be great if Pavlik came back to KO Bute after a tune up. I really hope he can stay on the straight and narrow. Seems like a nice guy.
168 is a large amount to shed and he was absoultley not fat at all...looked great. I would like to see Pavlik test the waters at 175 against a live opponent.
Pavlik is most def a nice guy. He just likes his liquor a little bit too much. I was wondered why his lips looked funny. lol
i was told that the fight was pretty much a done deal by someone that was inquiring about facing kelly
Pavlik should stay away from Hopkins, They went 12 rounds and he lost. Stylewise it is a bad matchup. Hopkins is a counterpuncher who is economical. Pavlik likes guys who come to fight so he can get them tired and exploit the exhaustion.
Pavlik: 'My partying days are over' Published: Tue, February 22, 2011 @ 4:33 p.m. Boxer Kelly Pavlik spoke the local media Tuesday afternoon for the first time since leaving rehab last month. In a wide-ranging press conference that lasted about 35 minutes, Pavlik covered a variety of topics, ranging from his drinking to his career to his critics. Here are a few of the highlights: On whether he plans to change anything: "The only thing that's gonna change is the partying. My partying days are over. I'm not going to change who I am." On whether he's done with drinking altogether, "Right now, yeah. I've shown I don't need it. I can't tell you I'll never have another drink. All I can say is it hasn't crossed my mind." On whether his drinking had a negative effect on his boxing career: "When I was in training, I was in training. I was always in great shape. All my setbacks had nothing to do with drinking." Pavlik said he weighs about 193 pounds and is hoping to fight at super middleweight (168 pounds) on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas on May 7. When asked if he can be a world champion again, he said, "Yes. I have a lot of confidence and I have the hunger back." For more details, read Wednesday's Vindicator or visit Vindy.com. Pavlik made Frochs mandatory challenger February 18th, 2011 This content is protected By Sean McDaniel: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) has been made the mandatory challenger for WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KOs). Before you get excited about this potential fight, you have to realize that Froch still has a fight coming up on May 21st in the Super Six tournament against Glen Johnson. Froch will have to win this fight, which there are no guarantees that he can do this. If Froch wins this fight, he will still have a likely fight against WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward in the finals of the Super Six tourney. On top of that, Froch also has to worry about a potential fight against Mikkel Kessler, who the WBC gave the Emeritus status, which means Kessler can fight for the title without having to fight his way to a shot like most fighters. Kessler already beat Froch last year by a 12 round decision. Its unclear whether Kessler will choose to take a fight against Froch or even if Froch will have the title by the time Kessler presses the issue. Its doubtful that Kessler will want to fight for the WBC belt if Ward gets a hold of it because he dominated Kessler in their fight in 2009, beating him by an 11th round technical decision. Kessler doesnt match up well with Ward. Pavlik vs. Froch would be a great fight because both of them are very similar sluggers that like to come forward and move in straight lines. Unfortunately, there are a lot of hurdles in the way before this fight ever takes place. If Froch gets beaten a couple of times by Johnson and Ward, there wont be much excitement about a Froch-Pavlik fight.
That's gonna shatter the comforting perception BooRadley had of Pavlik being half drunk whilst losing to B-Hop and Martinez.
That Sports Illustrated article points out that Pavlik refuses to admit that his drinking affected his training but his family and trainer think otherwise.
If he could settle in at 175, a fight between Pavlik and Cloud would be VERY interesting. Cloud is the style of fighter that Pav thrives against.
the thing is, who is he going too fight, he won't be #1 at middleweight again anytime soon, because Sergio won too convincingly, that I doubt a rematch would change anything. Super-midd. are too big for him. So there is Sturm, PW, Pirog...?
