Edwin has good handspeed, but you are right in that he's certainly not slick. In fact, I think Ross has better footspeed and comparable handspeed.

Kelly beats this kid-- seven rounds to three.

Both fighters are also pushed by HBO, that makes the fight even more likely to happen.

Rodriguez has responded, speaking with The RING:

"He knows that fighting one of the top guys, he would have a higher reward against them, but that by fighting me, he's basically taking on that same risk. I think that's how he sees it."

"... I want Kelly Pavlik, which is funny, because, apparently, he thinks I'm horrible. But in one sentence he says that I'm horrible, and then, in the same sentence, he says that there is not enough money there to fight me."

If he thinks these are mutually exclusive then Edwin has already taken too many punches to the head and shouldn't be in the ring with Pavlik.

Edwin's hand speed is not as good as peak JT. Pavlik doesn't really have problems with hand speed unless it's mixed with really good footwork, and constant movement.

Yeah but a fight with Rodriguez wouldn't be a "stay active" type of fight. It would be a test...big difference. His thinking is that if he's gonna take a test, at least get compensated for it. Remember that Pavlik is still a big draw like it or not...

I certainly wish this wasn't the case but it is unfortunately a business and Pavlik can still draw for obvious reasons. The brutal truth is that he's 30 years old, he get's hit a LOT and he's been through some real wars. The window of opportunity is gradually closing and he's well aware that he can make good money against almost anyone in the top 20 so why take just any fight when you don't have to...at this point in his career?

Pavlik would stop Rodriguez, I'd take The Ghost.

Rodriguez is still talking. Here's the link.

I think Pavlik should take this fight. Knocking Edwin out has benefits that Kelly has not considered. Let me explain.

Kelly routinely spars with fighters who are better than Jaco and Sigmon. Those fights were just opportunities for KP and Garcia to gain experience working together, nothing more.

The Rosinsky win was a solid win, and a very smart performance against a fighter who posed numerous stylistic challenges. Pav won 9 out of 10 rounds because he stayed calm and fought smart. However, we did not get to see the beast who once claimed he'd fight Godzilla for $2.00 if it got him a shot at the undisputed middleweight champion of the world.

Rodriguez is a guy who would get "Pavlikated." He is an opponent against whom KP could come out a play the bully right from the opening bell. This is a fight that would allow Kelly to be the beast that people used to get excited about. That would create at least a little "buzz," and help move KP toward another shot at the big time, and that is what he seems to want.

All over the internet I keep reading about this war of words, and in every article they mention Edwin's dominate performance against Escalera. How come no one mentions the fact that Escalera was an absolute stiff. He was Rodriguez's easiest opponent in 5 or 6 fights. Of course he dominated him.

You're so ****ing deluded man . Pavlik hasn't destroyed anyone remotely decent in years. He's looked like **** against journeymen since his loss to Martinez and yet he's gonna somehow destroy an undefeated, legitimate contender? All the while being drunk for most of the time between the Martinez fight and now.

I always get a kick out of your posts on Pavlik.
