Kelly Pavlik should not have taken the Martinez fight

That's how I feel...the reason being is that he is in a lose lose situation. Martinez is a 154 pounder who just lost to the man how Kelly is thought my a lot of people to have ducked at least twice. If Kelly KO's him...he was supposed to. If he gets beat up...his career is really over. I really believe that if he couldn't get in the ring with either Williams or Sturm that he should have vacated his titles and went up to 168 and fought a minor contender like Sakio Bika. It would be an exciting fight and a way for him to get his beak wet...what are your thoughts on this?

I think Kelly would do well NOT to take career advice from you.

If Pav lost he can always say he was drained and move up to 168

Hes going to Ko martinez like he should. Whats the problem? Just another one in line waiting to get KO'd. Sergio isnt no monster like the majority of posters around here seem to believe.

I believe he will get some credit for beating Martinez. Boxing fans have short memories; if your last performance was impressive, you'll be looked on favourably by the great majority.

What you have to realise is that Pavlik does have high hopes for his career. He does want to fight the best and he wants to be thought of as an elite operator. Martinez is a difficult fight, but you don't achieve anything by not taking risks.

I disagree. He'll knock Martinez out and his stock will go up.

Reality is completely different from what most people think it is. Pavlik's fight on December 19th came on the heels of the longest lay off of his career, and it only lasted 5 rounds. Arum, Dunkin, and Team Pavlik all wanted Kelly back in the ring as early as February and no later than mid April. Sergio Martinez is the best fighter who was actually available and willing to take the fight. End of story.

People forget that he isn't like Jermain Taylor and a few others that are into the sport because of the money. He does seem to genuinely want to leave a lasting legacy. He has that motivation also.

I think the Cleveland Clinic gave him some excellent advice even though it put his career on hold and ended up making him look less than stellar for awhile. Also, I am not, nor will I ever be your lover boy so keep your '***' in check pimple face.

If he can KO Martinez his stock will rise, after what Martinez was able to do to P-Will. If he wins a boring decision, people will ride him for continuing to take lose-lose fights.

I think its a great measuring stick for his career at the moment.
