Are you telling me that he has no input whatsoever in who he fights? And Williams and Cintron have both fought most of their careers under 160...quit making Kelly look like a victim.
Because the majority of people on this forum are picking Martinez after losing a controversial SD to a natural 154lber. Martinez is more of an unknown quantity, but we all know Pavlik's strengths and weaknesses. Pav by KO 7-10th round.
I disagree.Pavlik beating Martinez, the man who many believe including me beat Williams, will raise Pavs stock. Williams has fought at 160lbs and was big at 147,and is big at 154lbs where Martinez fought Williams. So i dont see why Pavlik should get discredited for fighting and possibly beating a solid fighter in Martinez. Didn't Pavlik move up to 170/175 to fight Hopkins for no title. Is it so crazy that Martinez is moving up one division to possibly win the middleweight title. The haters will always be there to hate, even if Pavlik wins.
honestly couldnt disagree with you anymore, your logic is really simple, did you forget how many people including the whole announce team had martinez beating the " dangerous" williams, i thought the fight was a draw. Regardless it was amazing fight that williams was in no hurry to get back in the ring with martinez for a reason, if pavlike comes in and decisevely beats williams which is no easy task his stock rises again, and hopefull williams will drop his unreasonable demands and take what a contender should take in terms of money when fighting the more popular larger draw of a champion, then that fight will happen.
I see this is a pretty calculated risk for Pavlikk. Look at the three guys Martinez has had trouble with: Margarito, Cintron, and Williams. 3 tall lanky welterweights who apply pressure. Suddenly hes supposed to move up and fight a bigger, harder hitting, lanky fighter and people expect big things? Get real. The only chance Martinez has is to be busier than Pavlikk (which isnt hard) and build up enough points to be safe down the stretch. I dont think he can do that against Pavlikk. Martinez showed respect every time he was hit by Williams, and he was hit often. How do you think he reacts when hit by Pavlikk who is pretty heavy handed? Id love to see Martinez beat Pav but I dont see it happening. I think this was creative, calculating match making at its best for the Pavlikk people.
Wrong on several points. Williams agreed to an immediate rematch and even offered more money to Martinez than Pavliks people. Martinez chose to go with Pavlik saying that a win over Kelly would give him more bargaining power against Williams and help set up a bigger rematch. So dont go saying Williams ducked a rematch with Martinez. Furthermore, Williams is a two time champion who has fought in three weight divisions. You call him a contender as if he has nothing on his resume. He has faced and beaten better fighters than Kelly Pavlik and would have faced and beaten even better fighters had guys like mayweather not ducked the **** out of him. Pavlik has been coasting for years off his fights with Taylor but the bloom is off that rose and its now apparent that a win over Taylor isnt that the feather in his cap that it was cracked up to be. Lets also not forget being dominated by Hopkins and subsequently unwilling to face anyone worthy of challenging for a regional belt much less a world title... oh and he ducked Williams... TWICE. How is Pavlik "the draw"?? His fan base is located in the rust belt the center of which is Youngstown. In his last fight, which was held in Youngstown and had a PPV blackout he couldnt even fill half of the Beeghly Center where the fight was held. Less than 3500 fans showed up to see their hometown "draw" perform and that was after tickets had been given away by Top Rank and it was announced that area bars and homes could not buy the PPV. Oh and what about that PPV? Not a single network picked it up. Top Rank had to produce it themselves. Thats your draw... Williams' resume shits all over Pavlik's from top to bottom.
I call bull****. I have never seen this and not even NBA has ever made this claim. I don't believe there was more money available for a PW/SM fight than a KP/SM or a KP/PW fight, especially since HBO wanted KP/PW the most. You think HBO would throw more money at that fight? atsch PW got outbid because KP is a bigger draw. Plain and simple.
You made a statement and backed it up with sketchy ****. Like I said, even NBA wouldn't back your sorry ass on that one because he knew it wasn't true.
