NBA has a lot closer line to the facts on this one than most of us and passed information that I haven't seen public anywhere else. Final authority? No. Better than most in this case? Yep. This one ain't hard. Pdub got outbid by someone that could offer more. End of unless I see something definitive.

If you say he got outbid then stop saying he ducked Martinez. They are two different things. Top Rank having deeper pockets than Goosen-Tudor is not the same as ducking someone. As cranky as you are Id say your ******* still hurts from raping your hero suffered at the hands of a 43 year old guy who was given little chance to win...

Martinez is a fairlywell respected fighter who gave Paul Williams, the top middleweight contender, a very tough fight last time out. Martinez is regarded by almost everyone as one of the several best at 154 and presents a tough style for Pavlik. This is a solid defense for Pavlik and if he wins, barring any controversy, he will get credit for it. Considering Pavlik's other title defenses this fight looks even better.

I never said Paul ducked Martinez. Well, I might have trolled, but I doubt it. Top Rank would not outbid Goosen-Tudor just to outbid them. They would only do it if they had more money coming in from HBO for the fight. HBO wanted KP/PW. They weren't going to offer Pdub much money to fight anyone else. That is how they play the game. You want OUR MONEY, you fight who we want you to fight. Kelly will make MUCH more than Pdub will for fighting Martinez. This is Economics 101.

So the Linear Middleweight Champoin of the world should not have taken on a JR. Middleweight titlist?

I guess Kelly really is underrated on ESB.

And a lot of the same people saying he should go up and take on Bute instead? Talk about something being a one way street.

Martinez/Pavlik/Bute are all ranked at the top of their division by The Ring last I looked.

I really don't think kelly has anything to worry about. Sure, martinez is a
slick southpaw, but he's not powerful enough to hurt kelly. Also, sergio is
a sucker for a good straight right, and that's kelly's best punch. While I won't count out a martinez upset, Logic tells me kelly's power and workmanship will be too much for the argentine.

Yeah, there is a reason they actually go ahead and have the fight isn't there. :D

I can see the Bute fight b/c they want to see him in more competitive fights. But to say he is so limited he can't handle Martinez is really underestimating the Middleweight champ.

Terrible analysis. Those are the 3 best fighters he's been in with in his career and hence would give him the toughest fights. You can't put that down to Sergio having a specific difficulty with tall pressure fighters.

Margarito and Cintron are 5'11. Martinez is 5'10. It wasn't a height issue, just competitive fights between top 10 guys in the division.

First, the thread title is misleading, and factually incorrect. Kelly Pavlik did not "take a fight" with Sergio Martinez. Martinez, in a very brave move, took a fight with the linear middleweight champion of the world.

Second, Pavlik chose Martinez after Goosen demanded a 50-50 co-promotion. Goosen did not ask for more money for Paul. He ask for a 50-50 co-promotion: 50% control of a fight card with a Top Rank world champion in the main event.

Third, Somehow Sergio Martinez turned into a lighting fast, slick as snot in a grease can, Godzilla type beast, based on a controvesial draw and a loss! The hard cold reality is that the WBC awarded Martinez his title after Vernon Forrest was murderd, he did not win it in the ring, and Sergio is 0-1-1 against world class opposition.

Not at all. You have two #1 Ring Ranked champs going at it. We can speculate all we want. Martinez wants the fight. Pavlik wants the fight. Let them decide the matter in the ring. I don't see the issue posed in the original post.

Yes there's risk in this fight, but I don't think it's a lose/lose situation for Pavlik. Martinez looked good in his last fight at 160, and proved in his last few fights that he is very skilled and tough. He's also probably the more skilled fighter at 160 available for Pavlik to fight right now. Pavlik should be given respect if he beats Martinez by the people that have been talking highly of Martinez.

The majority on here think that Martinez wins, so Pavlik should be given respect if he beats him. Even if Pavlik loses a decision, it doesn't mean that he's terrible, but credit should be given to Martinez. The only problem for Pavlik is if gets shut out or knocked out, which I highly doubt will happen.

I am glad that this fight is happening because it's a good clash of styles and has the potential to be very exciting. I am also happy that Martinez is getting a shot at the title after all the recent events surrounding his fights, and this is also a chance for Pavlik to shake off some of the criticism that he can't fight slick fighters.
