This fight is a possibility. Warren has thrown out the challenge and Pavliks representatives have said "show us the money and we'll agree" I cant see it happening but who do you fancy? I think DeGale could be a very special fighter and I would pick him to do a number on Pavlik, especially after all his recent issues. Thoughts?
Well Degale just might be able to pull it off but id say thats might be bad manager/Promoter move... Pavlik is too dangerous at this point. Its not like Pavlik is gonna fight him first week out of rehab. Im sure he will train like this is fight a tiltle shot.
big step up for degale, he's got the skills to make pavlik look bad but whether he could take kelly's punches and stick to the gameplan would be fascinating. Doubt it happens though, just pie in the sky to get his name out there
this is the only question that remain in doubt regarding De Gale imo. he hasn't had a gut check yet and his chin hasn't been tested. he has proved he has the skills.
Way too early for DeGale but this is just free advertisement from Warren. I'm a bit torn on Chunky as I saw and read a few pieces on him where behind the cocky style he came through as a cool dedicated kid, and he'll go far. But he bends the rules too much, using elbows and holding the head & hitting are pretty serious fouls and he does it regularly. Now before thinking of Pavlik he should beat a couple of contenders and maybe Stieglitz for the WBO belt. BTW does anyone know what happened to Chunky's MW plans? He said he can make 160 if I remember correctly but it was a while ago.
he has a money fight with Groves at 168 who has fought at light heavy. I don't think DeGale can make 160 safely, his fight before last he missed the limit by ounces, so it either suggests he has issues with the weight or he took that fight lightly.
No way he can make 160 was reading Fighting Fit earlier today and jim Mac says Chunky comes in to training weighing 178 lbs and always makes sure he doesn't come back any heavier.
18lbs plus is not that much for pro boxers, some gain that amount between the weigh-in and the fight so getting rid of that over a 6-week camp is nothing unusual. But it ultimately comes down to the given fighter. If DeGale comes in a fit 178 lbs and weight just won't go below 165 no matter what, he shouldn't kill himself. He just could've been a superb addition to the 160lbs mix that's shaping up to the best division of boxing with Martinez, Williams, Pavlik, Pirog, Golovkin, Hassan N'Dam, Guerrero, Lemieux, Jacobs, Macklin, Korobov, Dzinziruk and Sturm.
I'd love to see this fight. I don't think a loss would be bad for DeGale, just more experience. I see DeGale with a good chance in this fight, I've been very impressed with him so far.
pavlik has the power and speed to give degale troble at this stage of his career. maybe to early. i mean smith did land a few clean shots so what would the far better harder hitting pavlik do? but maybe in 3 or 4 fights i see degale tightening up and realy sharpening his tools enough to blast guys like p[avlik out. degale doesn't hit hard but he lands punches you dont see. double hooks and switch upper cuts. there the shots that knock you out.
Like Frank Warren is gonna put Degale in with anyone of Pavliks calibre, he never done that with any of his other fighters he always waited for opponents to be shot
It will either be the right or wrong time for Warren to throw DeGale in with Pavlik. A rusty Pavlik who has gone through some emotional stuff over the past few months, or a revitalized Pavlik who will be back to his normal self. If it's the latter (obviously hard to tell), I wouldn't risk it.
Pavlik has nothing to lose and everything to gain. DeGale has everything to lose and little to gain. Funny, I usually write that kind of statement when someone's facing Hopkins. Pavlik trounces limited, but likable prospect.
