Kelly Pavlik v Sergio Martinez......Who ya got?

Who has Martinez beat thats great? Y'know..just for the sake of objectivity.

It's fashionable to bash Pavlik on here, its been obvious for a while. Everybody is on the bandwagon.

 

I'm still looking for some substantiation to your claim that Martinez is going to be "too busy" Pavlik. Or are we, ah, "Losfer_Words"?

 

I think footwork, variety of punches and the fact that Martinez won't stand head-on will prove to be a deciding factor in the fight and constitute a 'busy' fighter and gameplan. I have an opinion and so do you, so what's the big deal with someone disagreeing with you? Cut the condescending tone as well, tough guy- you're not intimidating anyone from behind your keyboard:good.

 

People are just calling the fight how they see it, theres no Pavlik bashing 'bandwagon' and it doesn't mean they are making 'lazy' picks.

It would n't surprise me one bit if Pavlik turned out to be too strong for Martinez but its also perfectly reasonable that Martinez can out box Kelly. The poll backs this up by showing the 2 by far most popular pics as being Pavlik KO and Martinez points (separated by 2 whole votes!!). Some bandwagon!

Wow -- and I mean just ****ing WOW!! I read through this entire thread, and it looks like some ordinarily astute posters have been sniffing glue and drinking sterno!

There is hardly a post on here that does not refer to Bernard Hopkins. Some how Pavlik's loss to Hopkins magically translates to a guaranteed win for Martinez. Let's see if that really makes sense. Bernard Hopkins atg middleweight, undisputed champ at 160, most middleweight title defenses in history. Beat Tarver who was the man at 175 at the time, and was the Ring #4 P4P fighter when Pavlik fought him. Sergio Martinez's best win was a shot to **** Bunema. Nope -- apply all the magic formulas you want, and pour on the hater-aid, ya still can't make this dog hunt.

The Martinez by KO predictions are down right foolish. Pavlik already beat 10 or 12 guys who hit harder than Martinez. He's been hurt exactly twice in his entire pro career. Some journeyman hurt KP in his 5th or 6th fight, and KP sparked him in the next round. Taylor hurt KP and got his ass beat in the next round, and brutally knocked out a few rounds later. Martinez has a 50% KO ratio against mostly poor opposition, but he'll knock Pavlik out???? Sorry, but this dog won't hunt either.

Now some say Martinez is just to slick for KP. When exactly did Sergio show all this slickness? When he routinely circles the wrong way? When he telegraphs his lead left from 3 feet away? When he jumps in face first and telegraphs a right hook? When he backs up in straight lines with his hands down? When he repeatedly proves that he sucks at clinching? Sorry boys, but this is one more dog that won't hunt.

Sergio Martinez has never even been in the ring with a legit middleweight. Next month he will find himself faced with one of the biggest middleweight champs in history.

Martinez has two losses ten years apart. Both came against pressure fighters who were natural welterweights. Pavlik is bigger, stronger, and strategically and tactically better than the welterweight pressure fighters who already beat Martinez.

 

There definitely is a bashing Pavlik bandwagon and its unrelated to who people pick in this fight. That just means they are facing the reality of the situation, Martinez was hurt badly by Paul Williams.

Since Pavlik's defeat to Hopkins he has caught all kinds of ****. We had the period where everybody deserted him after that loss. Then the **** he caught for fighting mandatories. Then he got destroyed on this forum for having an injury and the Paul Williams on/off saga.

People don't like the guy very much.

Martinez has good power with very awkward slick skills. Whilst Pavlik has very good power but is very one dimensional.

If Martinez has "good power," why does he have a 50% KO ratio against mostly sub par opposition. That is a historical reality. So how do you reconcile history wth your claim that Martinez has good power?

If Martinez is so slick, how did a notoriously sloppy guy like Williams land over 40% in some rounds? The historical reality is that Quintana performed better against Williams in their first fight than Martinez did. So, again, how do you reconcile history with your theory?

 

Regardless of 50% ko ratio Martinez does have good power. Whilst he may not be a ko specialist, he does have respectable power.

Pavlik imo will not be able to just walk through him.

Plus Pavlik's main weapon is that he is a massive 160lb fighter. And when he steps above this weight he is pretty ordinary.

Jab, right hand. jab, jab right. jab, jab, right, left to the body. Nothing special.

But in this fight i think Pavliks size may not be much of a factor as Martinez will be continuously on the move and not allow Pavlik to set his feet.

I may be wrong as 160 isnt Martinez's natural weight, but i think Pavlik will be to slow over the 12 rounds distance for Martinez who i think is cruelly underated.
