I'm picking Pavlik to win via late KO

Lopez can't fight going backwards. Kelly hasn't been in the ring in over a year, and will be fighting at his highest weight ever, but it's still Kelly Pavlik, and if ya can't fight going backward . . . . . well . . . . you guys know how that works.

Kelly is going to smash this guy. No chance of lopez winning. After this, Kelly should fight a big step up.

I look for Kelly to take this guy some rounds if he feels comfortable, otherwise he will need another tune up. How big the next step is depends on what happens in this fight. If this guy proves too weak an opponent his team may want to take an incremental step up. Basically, we have to wait and see. They chose someone that should give him a test and get him ready for the next step, but things have been strange in boxing lately. Of course April will be over by then. A whole month of 'April Fools' it would seem.

Food for thought. Pavlik is sparring (or has been) Romero Johnson. Johnson fought Alfonso Lopez, in Lopez' most recent bout. I don't know if anybody has seen or saw the fight, but Lopez was very sloppy and stopped Johnson in the last round, but really Johnson wasn't ever really too badly hurt. In sparring against Pavlik, and this is sparring with headgear and what not, Johnson was badly hurt and could not finish his scheduled sparring. Johnson has already gone onto say Pavlik will kill Lopez. And I would have to agree with him, not only that, but I've seen Lopez fight a couple of times and he really isn't anything special. No resume, very very sloppy, very slow, wide shots, and his power is overrated. No upset, Pavlik wins by whenever he wants. Not to say Lopez isn't a bad fighter or a bum or anything like that, he's undefeated for a reason, but If Pavlik is at least 20% of what he was in his prime, then Pavlik wins easily.

Nah, this storm is only taking hyped ones, no pressure or too high expectations on Pavlik, he should win by late fight stoppage.

Thanks for connecting those dots. I read about Kelly sparring this guy but didn't realize he was Lopez's last opponent. They just mentioned he was from Cleveland so I thought he was brought in because he was close by. There was some crude footage of the final couple of rounds of that fight but I didn't know if they looked sloppy because they were tired or were just, well, sloppy.

Ive only seen Lopez once...and he didnt impress me at all... Based on what i seen his record is misleading and puffed up against weak opposition.. Physically he looks strong but i dont thnk he has real ko power. Form what i seen they look like thudding blows. TO put it bluntly he dont have any talent, and is slow too.. This was only a litltle over a year ago so i doubt that he is improved a enough to have a shot against Pavlik...

Do you really think Pavliks people would put him in with a 21-0-0-16 LIght heavyfighter with talent? He just got out fo rehab and hasnt foughht since losing to Martinez.. There just trying to make the uneducated fan think that Pavlik is taking on a tough and dangerous fighter.... Unless Lopez has a granite chin, expect a ko, cuz from what ive seen pavlik is gonna get through plenty.

Johnson lasted 3 rounds. When asked how Kelly looked he said, "I couldn't tell. I was to busy getting my head snapped back."

There is some rather poor video of the sparring session on Vindy.Com. The video was poor quality, but it looked like KP was mostly working on his in-fighting. He was by no means shy about using his right hand, but he was working the left with what looked like evil intent.
