It was one of those fights which really, I mean seriously mattered at that time and historically too. two absolutely monster punchers with iron chins going at it...

Great fight. I feel like Pavlik is clearly a more skilled operator, but his defense wasn’t great, and could be hurt, while Abraham was packing IRON…

Abraham stops him, after maybe getting busted up for several rounds.

Not sure how that one goes - great fight - but I lean Pavlik

Pavlik had the turning circle of an oak wardrobe. He was a journeyman plodder at best. Abraham smokes him.

Would have been a belter .. bit of a forgotten middleweight Abraham.. people tend to judge him on the super 6 but he was a helluva MW.. that fight would have been a ban burner.. wish we'd have got GGG Pirog too...

    Pavlik by decision.

Superior craft, better combination puncher, more versatile jab and hit just as hard if not harder.

Pavlik at this very best was simply better.

I wouldn't rule out a stoppage, Pav was brutal when he had you hurt.

Have to remember Pavlik would enjoy a size advantage as well... he was a very boiled down fighter at MW.

    Agree on all points.

You're right about Pavlik's superb finishing ability and the possibility of a stoppage, given that AA was scarcely elusive and would have welcomed a firefight (a risky proposition against the heavy handed Ohioan).

Pavlik lost twice--to a current HOFer and ATG (Hopkins) and a future HOFer ( Martinez)-- and suddenly every Euro in trunks "smokes" him.

Pavlik kind of, sort of reminds me of a bigger version of legendary middleweight Freddie Steele... though with less inherent skill and a propensity to rely more on his physical abilities then Freddie did. Pavlik leaned heavily into brawling at times as opposed to always being a calculated boxer/puncher.

Damn, the more I talk about him the more I miss Pavlik.

Despite having a woman's name, Pavlik was a really good boxer. Much better than the likes of Abraham.

    Freddie Steele......

Now you're bringing all that old school smoke, my man!!

Yeah, Pavlik was a good fighter and an entertaining watch.

I have some decent quality footage of him I've been meaning to put up... not sure if it's already floating around out here.

Yeah I'm surprised people in this thread are picking Abraham I'd make Pavlik a clear favourite Abraham got his jaw broken and was in a life a death struggle vs Miranda. Pavlik beat up Miranda like he owed him money.

I think Pavlik is a level above Abraham at his best he only lost 1 fight at Middleweight to a prime Sergio Martinez.

I agree with you even though I picked Abraham, to me it’s really just the fact that Pavlik could be hurt and was hittable just due to his aggressive style, and if Abraham hurts you that’s a wrap.

Abraham on the other hand, I don’t recall ever seeing rattled, let alone down and hurt.
