Quite agree, Jake was pretty clever defensively ,he had to be taking on the bombers he met, plus his power is a little underated ,once inside he would make your ribs scream, NO PROBLEM,he had enough pop to drop SRR who had a grade A chin

Very glad to read LaMotta getting his rightful due here on this board. It seemed for a long time Jake was just considered as a chopping block...Watch the films people!!! Jake could bob and weave, and roll with punches very well...Anyone good enough to make SRR miss (early in the fight) standing right in front of him...is a very well schooled fighter.

I think too many people dissmiss Pavlik as an average fighter cause of what Hopkins did to him. Well sorry to break it you but B-Hop would do the same to Lamotta as well. Will see how Pavlik's career unfolds, he's still the undisputed middleweight champion and I believe he'll beat any middleweight out there.

I think Abraham can dispute that.

I "dismissed" Pavlik a long time ago. I think he is an alright fighter and I enjoy watching him because he is flawed, that often makes for fun viewing. But he isnt anymore then slightly above average fighter (except for his power) compared to todays talent, compared to alltime talent he is nothing really.

Hopkins beats LaMotta but no way in hell does he embarrass him like he did Pavlik. Saying anything otherwise proves you jus ignant. Its cool to have an opinion but when your arguement is as weak as yours expect some flak to go your way, especially if you are going to post that crap in here. There are people who you could really learn off, in this forum especially, I suggest you give it a go.
If the fight was at lightheavy that would benefit Lamotta more then anything by the way.

I felt Pavlik was average from the very first time I saw him fight to be honest, was never impressed with him in the least. The fact that someone as limited and slow as him and Jermaine Taylor before him can become the middleweight champion of the world speaks volumes about the current state of the division, in a nutshell the division stinks.

He is fun to watch though I`ll give him that, but a great fighter or future great in the making he most certainly is not, and should him and Abraham meet up eventually I think the Ghost man is gonna get his clock cleaned and flattened, bad style macthup for him.

As for Hopkins he may well have beaten Jake and in fact probably would have, but you can rest assured that he would have given a much better account of himself than what Pavlik showed us, you can bet the house on it I`ll say that much. Like I said though lets just agree to disagree, we will obviously not see eye to eye on this topic so further debating is rather pointless really.

Your opinion deserves consideration.Like you I thought the Hopkins /Calzaghe fight was close ,but unlike you I thought Joe just won it.I'm a fan of Pavlik's ,he comes to fight ,but, as B Hop proved he needs more seasoning. Lamotta fought some seriously good fighters ,"The Ghost "has some way to go before he fills Jakes boots imo.We agree to disagree?

yeah we can agree to disagree. BTW, I think Pavlik beats Abraham if they fight. I'm not impressed with abraham and Pavlik already whooped Miranda, abraham got his left overs. So I think people are riding the bandwagan cause of that victory.

The 5-8 Lamotta versus the 6-3 Pavlik, thats a massive size descrepancy, with the range Pavlik has and the sharp consistent jab, which is an excellent 1 to outjab Taylor. He will dominate the outside game and look to back up the come forward fighter with his jab, highworkrate combinations.

Lamotta's tactics in this fight are clear, come in fast, slip the jab and work at mid-close range with hooks and uppercuts. With this he will have successes I'm sure but Pavlik's defense and inside game are getting vastly underrated. The most similar style is probably Miranda, who is different and inferior yes, but still a come forward fighter reliant on backing his man up. Palik displayed he can use footwork and a tight defense, aswell as outworking and outbrawling on the inside.

When Lamotta fights at close to mid range he will take Pavliks uppercuts, which will be punnishing. Pavlik may even get off better at close quarters. We usually favour a tall pressure fighters over a small 1, see Foreman-Frazier and Margarito-Cotto, to see how a tall pressure fighter can damage the small pressure fighter at mid/close range with uppercuts

Pavlik has also showed a very good but not quite great chin, enough to withstand Lamottas shots none the less.

So Lamotta would have his moments but the best I expect him to do would be losing an 8-4 type decision and giving Pavlik a very hard night

Having said all that Pavlik is just too damn big and if Lamotta dehydrated like modern fighters he may well fight at 154 or even 147 using saunas, sweat suits, diuretics that modern fighers use. Then he'd have a day to rehydrate to 160 or so.

Lamotta fought weight all his life .Pavlik is tall at 6 2 1/2 ,but the meat in his career consists of a win over Miranda ,two wins over a so /so Taylor a win over an overmatched Lockett and a loss to a 43 year old Hopkins. Jake beat a 5 11 Murphy,a 6 2 Satterfield and a 6 0 Basora, and he was accustomed to taking the punches of hard hitting LHv's,Pavlik would hold no fears for him ,imo.

I'm sure Lamotta wouldn't hold fear, he'd just pick up another loss because of the stylistic match up issues I outlined.

Those men aren't big as Pavlik and don't have the same attributes as him. Satterfield was also a 1year pro at that time and would go onto lose to practically every 'named fighter' he faced. Murphy also stopped Lamotta

Lamotta also didn't face the likes of Burley, Moore, Charles, Maxim. He'd have a got schooling from Moore and Charles like Pavlik did, of that I'm sure.

Lamotta also lost and drew with Basora who is another ex-welterweight

Now back then without dehydration and 24hour weigh ins and without a 168lb division Pavlik without a doubt would fight at LHW, and ofcourse hes fought at 170 himself

Styles make fights, Pavlik isn't as great as Lamotta yet, but the style and size completely plays into Pavliks hands. Pavlik's resume isn't as deep as Lamottas but hes already fought the best from his era and wanted Calzaghe, who he matches up better with than Hopkins
