Basora weighed 1451/4 at 20 years old ,bythe time he was 22 he was a middle and 6 foot tall. You critisize Jake for not meeting Moore , Maxim ,Charles they were LHv's,
Jake boiled down to middle because thats where the money was.Sattefield was in and out but he hit appreciably harder than Pavlik, imo. The guys you mention probably would have schooled Jake ,they probably [Charles and Moore ] would stop Pavlik.A 43 year old guy exposed Pavlik all time great LHvys in their prime , would eat him.Maxim would trombone him to death with his left hand.

I agree Moore and Charles make mince meat out of Pavlik, but I'd also give Hopkins a decent shot to shut out Lamotta, where does Lamotta win this, on the outside? No, on the inside Hopkins is a skilled brute himself.

Hopkins has a habit of 'exposing' elite level opposition and getting schooled by Hopkins doesn't make you a bad fighters and doesn't necessarily mean you lose to Lamotta

I like Pavlik he is a breathe of fresh air in boxing imo ,Hopkins could beat Lamotta ,and he would certainly make it difficult for any middleweight.Cut to the chase Jake beats Pavlik.End Of.

Fair arguement but I strongly disagree.

Pavlik's defense and inside game are acceptable against the level of fighters he has been facing but are very inferior to a guy of Lamotta's status. There is just no way in hell that Pavlik gets close to getting the better of the inside exchanges and there is no fight on his record that supports this. Kelly's best chance is the dictate with his jab and bombs from the outside but on the inside he gets murdered by the better infighting technician.

I also dont think Pavlik is even the bigger man physically. He is taller but skinnier and I dont think as strong. He appeared to have not anymore strength at 170.
To say Lamotta would make 147 is laughable. The man fought at lightheavy as a 20 year old and had to work hard for many years to keep himself down at middle.

Size doesnt count for much when we are talking about a big gap in the proven ability of the fighters mentioned. And as I said, except for the height, I dont think Kelly is much bigger if at all physically.

The lightest Lamotta weighed was 1541/2 for a fight with Tony Janiro [he had to make under 155],in1941,he weighed 167 1/2 when he turned pro.You would have to cut his legs off for him to make 147!

This shows you don't know about modern weight making. A modern fighter can weigh 160-170 and fight at 154, they can weigh. The human body is mainly water and they dehydrate using saunas, sweat suits, diuretics dropping 10-15lbs of water from their natural weight. So therefore if Lamottas natural weight is 165, he fights at 154 no problem, 147 would be possible, hes small compared to a modern middleweight.

Come on mate saunas are no new thing and neither are diuretics.

If a man loses any more then 9 or 10 % of his body weight in water, he basically dies. I can call on many studies that support this.

I just dont think its as simple as all that. Some people even though they may look small just cant drop weight like that. I personally dont thnk Lamotta is one that can, though I do recognize the fact he did fight several times clearly below the middleweight limit.
I dont know maybe he was contracted to do so because he was facing a smaller fighter, but more often than not he came in clearly over.

Power Puncher is on the button here.

Corrales and Clottey came in one pound over the welterweight limit and on fight night they were almost 180 pounds apiece.

    I ****ing kid you not.

I don't think Pavlik is as bad as Hopkins made him look but he's not in the same league as Lamotta. He'd get stopped.

Wow thats incredible. Do you have any sources for this Russ?

Thats 14 kilos in 24 hours....that just seems to much.

I can only find two articles that say Diego weighed in at 160 come fight night. I think Clottey weighed about the same in the Judah fight.

I like Lamotta to bully a decision here. Under any weigh in rule he will be ok. I'm sure he could add a bit himself if need be.

The question is Lamotta V Pavlik PERIOD. Not how one manages to cut weight.Whenever a matchup between differen eras is mooted someone has to say "well if he was around today he would weigh xlbs and be ripped probably 3 inches taller etc .THE QUESTION IS HOW DO THOSE FIGHTERS DO IN A HEAD TO HEAD COMING FROM THEIR OWN ERA WITH A MUTUALLY AGREED AMOUNT OF ROUNDS. Athletes have been making insane weights for 2oo years going back to the Champion English Jockey Fred Archer who lived on fresh air and laxatives ,eventually his mind snapped and he shot himself. As to what I know ,you know Jack **** about me, or I you ,so don't presume to know.

Modern weight making my ARSE! Archie Moore wore a rubber corset for sparring and bag work 50 years ago,you could fill a cup with his sweat after a few rounds ,I had one myself,a more crude version is the trusty bin liner which some lads put on between layers of sweaters for jogging. The problem with this is it is liquid you are losing ,so as soon as you drink you are replacing it.Diuretics and laxatives have been around for over a thousand years .As to saunas evry flat Jockey in the UK and Steam baths have been in the UK Since Roman times .
