OK. It's official. I can't keep up with the ABC bull****. I thought 'silver' was the mandatory spot. If not, then wtf exactly is it. Or did I just ask an impossible question to answer? I know money is involved.

 

All i can say is this, if Pavlik somehow lose to freaking Chavez Jr then Pavlik should announce his retirement right after this fight. I pick Pavlik to win by ko though but it be a very good fight as long as it last.

 

It's their new name for the interim title. Which is basically a glorified mandatory, except the champ gets longer to defend, the interim titlist gets a belt, and the WBC gets more sanctioning fees.

 

What happen to a catchweight belt?

 

Can't they just have a bake sale like everyone else FFS?

Pavlik by KO. Pavlik can't handle speed. Chavez Jr. doesn't have speed. Pavlik by brutal KO. If Pavlik did lose to Chavez Jr. he would need to retire ASAP.

This is a **** fight all around though. If Pavlik does win, what does that prove? That he can beat average fighters? We already know that. If JCC jr won well, it would finally be a notable name on his resume. That's about it. **** fight.

 

There is nothing about either of these fighters that indicates anything other than the undeniable fact that Pav would KO him silly.


Nothing else is possible.

 

So Pavlik turned down the Martinez rematch at 160, but will take this **** fight?

He must figure that he can continue drinking during training camp & still beat Jr.

My immediate reaction to this fight was BULL****! A scandalous money grab. However, with a little more thought it does make some sense from a certain perspective.

The first rumour we saw about Pavlik staying at 160 did not mention an opponent. He merely said he planned to consult a nutritionist and a "world class fitness coach" to see if it's even possible.

It might also be relevant to think about the Espino fight. Even though that only lasted 5 rounds Pavlik complained of muscle weariness, and said he would never let that happen again. A pretty short time later he was in the gym weight and strength training. If Pavlik did a bunch of unsupervised weight lifting that could explain why he entered camp "a solid 186.5 pounds" instead of the normal 175 or so, and it could explain why the weight wouldn't come off. Burning muscle is much harder than losing fat, and it is not healthy at all.

I think Pavlik could come in way under 100% mentally and physically, and still win. I don't want to see that, but I do think it's true. This fight would give Pav a chance to further explore the idea of staying at 160 without taking a big risk.

If KP feels good and performs well, he can go after a rematch with Martinez. If he struggles because of weight, Andrade and Bute will still be available, and the super six will have eliminated two fighters.

That's the last time the true middleweight champion of the world lost his title, and then regained it. If Pavlik wants to try to be the next guy to do that, I certainly understand why.
