What on earth would motivate Lucian or Kelly to work with Showtime? Neither got an invite to the Sauerland/Showtime party. HBO is looking to push both guys, HBO does an all around better job, and HBO pays better. You're right, Keith's scenario makes no sense at all.
This content is protected People have shown they will travel to see Kelly in the right match up. Hell, I wasn't too thrilled about paying for this fight, but the card seemed to make it worth while. Turned out Espino came to fight though. Don't think the Rubio fight didn't dampen interest in this fight because of Rubio's unwillingness to engage. This content is protected
You should never have doubted us Grasshopper. Especially when I said the AA/KP fight was useless the last year of AA being at MW. He was done weight wise. Give Kelly time to put on the weight and it is the SAME fight at 168. :yep
I think what Keith firsat said does have a little validation.. I don't think PW is a bigger draw than Pav in general, but PW could well be the biggest draw for Pav right now. Not only in terms of money but i really think he can pick up a win and show he is still dominant MW. This is the only reason i think that constitutes a 50/50. Can't wait for this fight to happen. Any one know when it will be if all goes ahead? I'm in America 25th May - Sep 2nd. :hi:
I honestly believe they learned their lesson with Martinez and Goosen will not agree to terms with Pavlik. Even IF Paul won the rounds it is obvious Martinez won the fight. He busted Paul up pretty damned good. Paul won't be fighting for a while since he has some recovering to do.
hermit u said u did go to the fight iwas wandering ur opinion on the jake g vs. henry white fight ? i picked white to win he is tough as nails and jake has no power i thought it was poor match making on the jake g team.well it ended up being a draw. i was wandering if that was a hometown gift or actually competitive fight.
It was a very good fight. The first 4 rds were even, but I thought Jake clearly won the last two. He seemed busier and landed the more effective punches. He bloodied Henry's nose in the 5th. Henry is a good fighter, but he needs to stay in the gym.
I was going to disagree with you and ask if you were still living in 2003 but you redeemed yourself with the last paragraph. There are a few fighters who are right there on the brink of being really title challengers and several more behind them. Williams, Martinez, Bute, Sturm are the only guys people are talking about, Sturm being the only real 160 being mentioned. - Macklin-Pirog is the rumour, winner getting Pavlik, who ever talkes that (Pirog imo) would be a real opponent. - Golovkin is rated #1 - Jacobs could be readny after those 2 challenges - then maybe N'jikam and Korobov in 2011. There just needs to be some attention shined on 160 so people know who these guys are and that they're real compitition. 160 will get real competitive starting this year and only grow stronger in the years to come, lots of talent.
If true, Pavlik will learn once again the hard lesson of moving up to weights that dilute his physical advantages at 160 and accentuate his relative lack of technical skill for a world champion. Bute KO10.
thanks j simp i really wanted to see that fight more than the pavlik fight cause i knew it would be a good one. i knew the pavlik fight was gonna be one sided
I was in the midst of some of his local supporters so it made it a little tougher. It was a close, competitive fight. I didn't score by rounds but I think neither my son or I had problems with a draw. Not like one guy really stood out compared to the other.
Sad thing is, this was a decent under card but people weren't really hyped to see Pavlik. I think the hap hazard way this thing happened and time of year had a lot to do with it. People from the area would have gone to AC to see him take on Williams but there was really no buzz created. Hell, it was the under card that sold the ticket to me. I thought the venue would suck. It did in some respects but seating was awesome compared to the other place in town. 1/2 the money got me two times closer. I didn't even bother THINK about moving down. Seriously.
That list of former contenders I made was just off the top of my head. My point was that as recently as 2007 the division was in much better shape than it is today. My other point was that all divisions have ups and downs. Right now 160 is on the upswing. And I agree it will be a very competetive division 18 months from now.
The real question here, (and forgive me if it's been answered already; I just logged on.) is where in Canada will this be? Cause Windsor and Niagara are both pretty close to NE Ohio, and I bet would be the best places to stage a card in terms of drawing fans.
