That's the way I see it too. Kessler said of Joe, "He ruined my boxing." And Kessler remined me of the provebial deer in the headlights in that fight. What the hell is Kessler gonna do against a guy who is going to make him fight every second of every round, throws 80 or more punches per round, has a connect rate that runs 30-40%, and sits down on damn near everything he throws. Pavlik would steal Kessler's soul and win a comfortable UD. This one ain't about skill. It's about heart, courage, and the desire to dominate.

Joe Calzaghe ruined Pavlik's boxing, not Kelly Pavlik. You are aware of this?

Mikkel Kessler is a counter-puncher and counter-puncher's like their opponents to come at them. By your own admission, Pavlik will be doing this all night and I see Mikkel Kessler countering at will and landing against Pavlik's suspect defense. Just my take.

Dont forget that Kessler react really bad when he gets hit.

When you have two top fighters like Kessler and Pavlik, one fighter "Landing at will" is highly unlikley.

Kessler's destruction of Andrade seems to have skewed some into thinking that's typical kessler. It said more of Andrade then it did Kessler in my opinion.

    This could be a factor.

I only saw Kessler react badly to a body shot though, and I firmly believe he has a decent set of whiskers on him.

Counterpunchers like people to come to them when they give up their height and don't work behind a jab.

Remember how much trouble old ass DLH gave Mayweather by popping that jab?

The jab neutralizes the counterpuncher's game. It maintains distance and keeps the counterpuncher on terms with what he does. You won't be landing any surprise hooks or uppercuts on Pavlik if your name is Mikkel Kessler. And that counter right hand will be seen as well.

Mikkel Kessler also has a great jab and a pretty useful one-two. I feel any fighter in the world could land on Kelly Pavlik. He has a lot going for him, but even Lockett landed when he threw shots.

    I take your points though.

    Sure.

Just keep in mind that Lockett had to reach to land. Sure Kessler is the same size as Pavlik but how fast is he of hand and foot? I'd imagine Pavlik would have a speed advantage. And that'd be crushing for a counterpuncher who is caught on the end of the jab.

For Kessler to win he'd have to reverse roles and become the aggressor. If he laid back and let Pavlik come to him he'd be on the end of Pavlik's jab all night. And all he'd have going for him is the counter right which would be avoided for the most part.

The problem people are running into here with the Andrade comparison is that Andrade voluntarily falls in. He's not hard to find with the counters because of that. And he doesn't work behind a jab. Everything he does is wide. So it's very easy to let him fall in and then hit him with a short, straight shot.

indeed. most exciting fight that can be made in that weight range. really tough call for me. both are very good boxers with very good power at 168. I think Pavlik's killer instinct and more diverse arsenal could make the difference. Pavlik very late stopagge in a back and forth fight. certainly wouldnt shock me to see a Kessler win.

I dont know, at one time I would say it's a 50/50, but now after Kessler ducked Miranda, probably because he was a too dangerous puncher for him, I feel Pavlik should have the edge going in. I think both fighters proved they had good chins, but also showed they can be hurt as well. Pavlik getting caught on the chin and going down, Kessler looking to want to take a knee from a body shot when he fought Calzaghe.

If I had to guess, I would say Pavlik by 9th round TKO, but it will be a great fight.
