Kelly Pavlik vs Mikkel Kessler who wins?

Well, Kessler now has a belt. Do you think Pavlik's first fight at 168 will be for a belt? I don't understand the clamor on this site for people wanting Pavlik to fight the winner of AA/EM. If it is AA, makes sense but I don't see EM.

Unless AA shows me something different tonight, I don't see him as a serious threat to Pavlik. Pavlik knows how to use his height/reach advantage. HBO is clamoring for him to stay at MW and 'clean out the division' waiting for a real opponent. And let's face it, they have a lot to say because of the money. Will they mire him easy fights to make it look good so people can tune in and be assured of rooting for a winner?

 

I just think its a bit optimistic to expect them not to be trading punches with this styles clash. Kessler did it against Andrade with good footwork, but we have to accept Pavlik is a step up from him. It's difficult to avoid trading with a fighter with such a high work-rate, unless you have great speed, which isn't really Kessler's game

It's fine for Kessler to trade punches, he just doesn't need to go to war and brawl, that would be stupid. A discplined fight behind the jab, stepping in with right hands and uppercuts when Pavlik walks in and gets square on as he is prone to should be enough for a Kessler W :yep

Kessler should also pick off nearly all of Pavlik's punches, and people will be suprised by this. Pavlik mainly punches straight, not with the angles of Calzaghe. Kessler's high guard is perfect for that. That is why Pavlik's body shots are his only chance under the high guard, and after Calzaghe hurt him.

Yes I think so, because Pavlik will go for all or nothing. He won't stand there and be outboxed, he'll keep walking in and taking shots and try to blast Kessler out

I would bet on a Pavlik late stoppage where the fight is even on the cards when the TKO happen.
It won't be a walk in the park for Pavlik, but I think he has the tools to beat Kessler fair and square

Blast Kessler out? He has a very reserved style which is why his punching power is under estimated. Even when 'finishing' he isn't throwing haymakers.

 

My point was, he won't be reserved when Kessler is outboxing him. He has heart and will to win, he'll try everything. It will be his downfall in the end.
