The 6'2 168 hard hitting Bute is a much is tougher fight for Pavlik then the 5'10 154 Martinez I think Kelly beats both though:deal

this is "gorilla dust" by arum (i hope). goosen is saying that williams will go down to 147 or rematch sergio. by doing/saying this publicy, goosen is trying to gain leverage in the pav/williams negotiations by showing that he has options. i'm hoping arum is trying to negate one of those "options" by saying **** it if we can't agree to terms i'll just give the fight to sergio, and on top of that no one at 147 will touch you. i'm hoping this is all just posturing by both sides and in the end pav/williams, which is the much bigger and better fight, will happen.

martinez is a lose - lose for pavlik. he wins, then he just ducked williams again to beat up on his leftovers...he loses (won't happen imo but a tough fight nonetheless) then he's a joke for losing to a guy that lost to williams.

if williams really doesnt work out then let williams fight sergio again. no one worth his time at 147 is going to fight him. pav can fight sturm and unify and the winners can meet.

anyone on here also see the irony that another "option" for williams, dzindruik, is also rumored to be in negotiations to come aboard w/ top rank?? :huh:think

dunno if that is just pure coincidence or if bob is really being shrewd about this.

I like Kelly, but this is a fight he won't win...he will get embarrassed just as he did in the B-hop fight.

Martinez is a tough fight for anyone, especially someone who has been inactive against elite level opposition.

This is not the fight Pavlik wants.

This isn't a lose/lose situation for kelly Pavlik...anyone who is familiar with Sergio Martinez is aware of this.

if Kelly beats Sergio martinez more convincingly than paul Williams, he will prove a great deal to himself and the boxing community. Sergio Martinez is a spoiler and someone who deserved a victory against Paul Williams and Kermit Cintron, two very tough opponents.

If Kelly can win this fight, he will be considered an elite fighter again.

I just don't think he can do it.

i posted this in another thread but it applies here. just my opinion :good

yes kelly will have problems early on just like probably anyone facing martinez. there will be an adjustment period. check my previous posts on williams/martinez. i said the same thing. but i implore you to see just who is a part of that 50% ko ratio of martinez. i have never heard of many of them. kelly will be by far the strongest opponent sergio will have ever faced. kelly will be taller, bigger, and much stronger. so while a slick southpaw can give anyone problems...a lot of people are seriously underestimating how strong pav is at mw let alone against a jmw.

martinez did fade down the stretch against williams. this will happen against pavlik as well. the only person to ever get kelly's respect was a 180 + lb atg at lhw. a light punching jmw will not. when bernard would tee off, he was already inside before kelly could react b/c bernard was the bigger stronger man to go along w/ his world class skill. he was also able to not be out muscled on the inside. this will not happen when kelly fights sergio. sergio will put up a fight no doubt. but he will get worn down and stopped. pavlik will outmuscle him when he tries to get in, tie up, and get a breather. he will either get thrown off and popped or start taking those uppercuts. towards the end of the williams fight there seemed to be many more straight lines out of martinez as opposed to early on. i expect the same when he faces pavlik.

but...this is all academic since i think martinez should fight pavlik only if he beats williams soundly in a rematch. but i will admit the irony of pavlik settling for a slick opponent who narrowly lost to the guy he really wanted to fight in the first place is too much for me not to be worried

    i like your enthusiasm...

but you are asking pavlik to get ripped by comparing lockett to martinez and by comparing pavlik to those three.

watch the williams fans light that post up :deal

I wouldnt take this as gospel, the guy who started this thread has a new fight every few weeks from the "word on the street". I dont know how many times Duddy and Pavlik/Chavez Jr has been a sure thing on here now.

The Williams fight was Martinez's first fight at 160...he will be better prepared to fight all 12 rounds at 160 than his last showing...

i really like Kelly, but I'm afraid this is a fight he can't win...if i had to bet money on this one, I would bet on Sergio via 12 round UD.

Sergio is just too good for Kelly's style...he is a very underrated and underappreciated fighter on this forum...anyone who is familiar with Sergio Martinez understands that he is one of the best kept secrets of boxing and is avoided for good reason.

Sergio is too fast and too skilled for Kelly at this time. i hope this fight isn't made for kelly's sake.

I disagree...this is a good fight for Pavlik. Its not about Williams left-overs, because many people thought Martinez won (I had it a Draw).

But this is a really good fight for Pavlik.

And for the Record...Martinez has too much skill and Variety for the "one-trick-pony style of Pavlik.

    UD or Late Stoppage!!!!
