This fight is all wrong for Pavlik. Martinez in my opinion is the best in his division. He is very difficult to fight. He has a chin, speed, footwork, and decent power. Not to mention he is a southpaw. If Pavlik thought B-Hop did a number on him, he is in for another lesson.

I'm sure Jack will have him well prepared.

    Double the Jab!

    Hit him in the balls!

Pound on that truck tire some more!

    Time for a beer run!

Honestly i would like to see Martinez win. He seems like a guy that got where he was the hard way and to erase the sour flavor the Cintron fight left on him for getting robbed twice.

It's so wrong the way Pavlik's promoters avoided fighting Abraham when he was a rival title holder and has now been forced to move up in weight. I don't see why that fight wouldn't of sold in America any more than the little known Martinez (to the general Boxing public)

    BAD MOVE FROM ARUM!!!

I know that topics been brought up before (HBO's real interest level in Pavlik), but it's worth repeating for those who don't see the writing on the wall. Pavlik wasn't a high priority before the Hopkins fight; now, he's being treated like an afterthought.

As for this fight, Martinez is actually a good fighter. I was pissed as hell about the Mora bout, but people shouldn't mention Martinez in the same sentence as him- Martinez is a class above. They may be JMW's named Sergio, but that's about the only similarity.

Would I be thrilled about this matchup? No. But, I would watch it and it's probably the best we're going to see without some more financial backing. I have to wonder if Pavlik re-upping with Top Rank and not going to Golden Boy is playing a part in this, too.

Anyways I don't think this fight is THAT bad. Sure it's not one of the 3 guys I'd like to see him fight (Abraham, Sturm or Williams) but Martinez IS a very good fighter at 154...so maybe it's not that bad. Stylistically, one could argue Martinez might have a decent shot.

To be fair, HBO really REALLY wanted Calzaghe vs Pavlik. Then Calzaghe sort of side skipped them and Pavlik/Lockett did the worst HBO WCB rating ever in the history of WCB. On top of that, HBO did very poorly when Taylor vs Pavlik flopped on PPV...and even WORSE when Hopkins/Pavlik flopped. So it's not like Pavlik wasn't given opportunities to succeed. The guy just isn't a major draw...and shelling out money for him is just not a good risk/reward thing.

Arum of course doesn't help matters sometimes either. The mere notion of a Mora vs Pavlik fight pissed a lot of people off, even the loyal Pavlik-ites were planning to boycott that fight.

Well since Abraham is now moving up to super middleweight. Beside the Sturm fight, there isn't any fighters right now in the middleweight division that is a threat to challenge Pavlik. The Middleweight division years ago was a very strong division but now it's very weak. I would like to see Pavlik vs Martinez and i think Martinez wins this cause he's faster, smarter and slicker. I could see Martinez outboxing Pavlik badly to a decision win but i won't be shock if Martinez gets robbed again by the judges just like in the Cintron fight.

Let's see how many will give a **** about his future title defenses, only the desperate and ignorant will give a damn. Pavlik looks to be taking notes from the Calzaghe camp, only mistake is he took on Hopkins too early, should have waited 5 more years or 6.

Taylor fought far much better competision in Hopkins twice, Wright, Ouma, Spinks. Mora and Duddy are not even close of better then Ouma ( when he wasn't a shot fighter) and Spinks.

High risk low reward fight for Pav. Foolish move if this is in fact true.

We never say he isn't but Martinez is a slick fighter with fast hands in which his style would be a big problem for Pavlik.
