Great comments. I agree completely!! Hagler didn't fight Ray Leonard every time out. He fought a string of decent to good middleweights, collected as many of the titles as he could and made middleweight HIS division. Pavlik could have done the same. The Hopkins fight still bothers me to this date. Horrible mismanagement. Of course, HBO wouldn't approve anybody else too, which is the side of it not many people acknowledge.

Seems like Pavlik has been away from the ring for a million years.

From a developmental stand point Martinez makes sense; slick, southpaw, plenty of experience, and fairly low risk. Everytime the subject of Bute/Pavlik comes up I tell you guys the same thing: "A faded version of Bronco McKart is the best southpaw on KP's record."

However, I doubt if this fight will happen.

Pavlik is slowly being mismanaged into being a nobody. Godamn, one year ago I thought this guy was gonna be madly respected in the MW ranks, now even though he's got some belts, people have mostly moved on to other boxers.

I'd rather watch Pavlik fan a wall dry than watch this crock of ****. Bob Arum can go **** himself if he thinks the fans are going to swallow a blown up Welterweight who's not ONCE fought at MW as a serious Pavlik opponent. This guy is doing everything he can to become the next Palle.

Has someone provided a credible source for this or is it just another silly rumor?

It was DiBella's idea. So far there's no comment from Top Rank or Team Pavlik.

Team Pavlik has been pretty quiet about everything lately it seems. Hope Kelly is enjoying his vacation and is fresh and ready to kick ass when he comes back.

SERGIO MARTINEZ..... I like him better than Mora.... But I'd rather watch Pavlik pound Mora so that Mora doesn't go around ducking people again.... Martinez, not sure how he'll fair at Middleweight.... I wonder if his speed will still be there.... If the fight is kept in the middle of the ring, Pavlik is at risk of losing...

    Ok........

Felix Sturm, Sebastian Sylvester, Khoren Gevor, even Randy Griffin at all ranked in The Ring Top 10.... EVEN DAVID LOPEZ~!! Top 10 Middleweights... Even that Finnish guy from FNF 4.... Amin Askainan... Beat him up..... Anthony Mundine... former Super Middleweight champ who moved down.... I don't care for the big name, I care that he atleast fights a viable top 10 fighter..... You can't be a Lineal champion and you're still fighting tune ups...

I simply can't see this fight happening. If it does Pavlik would beat Martinez up pretty good but it will do little for his reputation. Now that Abraham has moved up Pavlik has three guys left who make for midly to real serious challenges. Williams, Winky, and Sturm are three guys that people will be interested in Pavlik fighting.

Pavlik's last three fights have been wins over Rubio and Lockett and the loss to Hopkins. A lot of the steam he built up over 07 and early 08 is slipping away. You can't fight great fighters every fight but Pavlik is starting to need a big win and Martinez simply isn't it.
