I said that IMO Sauerland demands around $1 million and German TV money (another $600,000). Not that much considering this would be a unification...

    :D

Kelly is the definition of heavy handed. He doesn't throw a punch without full force, and he connects with the kind of thudding impact that wears his opponents down. It's silly for anyone not to acknowledge that.

I was underwhelmed by his performance against Rubio, but truthfully, I expected more improvement out of him than was realistic, and having seen Rubio at his worst and not being impressed by him EVER, I underestimated his toughness.

I don't think Rubio's "plan" was good, and I don't think he has remotely elite skills, but he came in terrific condition and absorbed serious punishment upstairs and down for nine rounds. Pavlik may never be a defensive wizard with lightning in his fists, but what he brings to the table is enough to give anyone right now at 160 fits, even a terrible style matchup in Winky.

No doubt if this is true, it would take away Arum's "money" excuse. That is why it would be wise for Saurland to "negotiate in the press" as it were. That is Arum's reason/excuse of the day. Take it away from him. Just like they did with Jack Loew's comments.

My son and I were at the fight. He is a MUCH better analyst than I am. He thought Rubio was doing quite well defensively. He was doing a good job minimizing the punishment for a while. Going backwards kept Kelly from landing a lot more of his shots hard. Against the ropes he actually got Kelly in position to counter, but couldn't pull the trigger. This is the one aspect of 'heavy hands Kelly' that people don't appreciate. He makes guys gun shy.

Now, or prime for prime? If now, I'll wait to see Winky against Williams.

He beat the guy into submission and that doesn't count? I was right earlier. This is "Idiots Day on ESB". If he hadn't been beat into submission he would have made it to the score cards. CLASSIC! Go up there with Enzo's "Haye" remark. :thumbsup Just for the record. Pavlik said he knew Rubio was done in the 8th and it was just a matter of time.

You guys can only go to that well with your blinders on so many times. How many years ago? Weight drained? No fights since, right? Yep. Idiot's Day.

Given the level of today's discourse? :yep Nah. Not everyone of course. Pavlik wasn't out of the shower before the crap started here about how shitty he was. :nut

Don't know. Don't care. Want to discuss boxing? A fight? Not up to that?

Here come the haters again. One ****ing loss to B-Hop (of all people) and suddenly Pavlik's a bum. Just because Pavlik didn't blast Rubio out in 5 rounds doesn't mean it was a poor performance. When a guy doesn't come to fight, but just runs around the ring with his guard up constantly, giving no room to counter or pick holes, then it's always going to be a slow process of him getting worn-down rather than a spectacular one-punch KO.

Prime for prime, yes, Winky wins. But he's not in his prime. He's not even close to it - unlike B-Hop. He won't cope with Pavlik's work rate, and he's not the kind of fighter than can just lie on the ropes and counter all night; he likes to come forward.

For me, Pavlik wins a moderate to wide UD.

Kelly just showed us he knows how to work the guard. Winky would be better defensively, but enough better? Kelly is bigger and has the heavy hands. He also has a little bad blood with Winky and has said he would like to smack around a smaller guy that doesn't hit back.

You have to understand that even though people say Kelly has bad defense, he counts punches differently. He said he got hit ONCE in the Lockett fight and TWICE in the Rubio fight. Though he said he wasn't hurt. What has Winky got to keep Kelly from just coming forward and unloading? He showed the left hook around the guard against Rubio. He was patient with his shots. Rubio had more power than Winky.

Even a convincing win where Pavlik did exactly what he set out to do isn't good enough for the haters. Why do you guys even follow boxing? Or do you? Keep bringing up one fight on a guys record. Please. This isn't some single elimination tournament. You can't appreciate the fight. Don't. Your loss, not mine. You put me on your ignore list and I'll put you on mine. Deal?
