Kelly Pavlik vs Winky Wright

Actually I could see Pavlik taking it to a decision by outworking Winky

 

Close UD for Kelly. I see Winky using that defense to keep any sort of devestating punch fromm Kelly from landing. However, he'll fade down the stretch as blocking Pavlik's heavy output takes its toll.

 

LOL, yeah this is a gurantee'd 12 rounder unless Kelly can hit a homerun pitch vs. Wright
(Which I don't see coming). SNOREfest! (And not because I "don't appreciate Movement & defense" either...)

For once, people are underrating Pavlik in this fight

I'll say Winky Wright by UD. I think he could really give Pavlik a go at his money.

 

Winky never gets close enough to do any damage. If he doesn't take any chances the fight goes the distance and he loses by 3-4 rounds. If he takes a chance he gets KOed between round 8-10

 

No one picked Winky to KO Kelly? Guess that's no damn surprise...Winky never KOed a single great fighter he ever fought (Bronco McKart got DQed in the last fight in that trilogy). Winky is awaste of time for Kelly anyway. He ought to just retire.

 

In 2009 a 37 year old Winky would have to win 7 rounds while fighting off the back foot, and avoiding Pavlik's right hand. Ain't gonna happen folks! Pavlik TKO8 Winky.

Incidentally, Winky is the only fighter I know of that Pavlik has talked trash about. He said, "I'd love to smack Winky around!" And made similar comments several times. There's genuine bad blood between these two. It stems from the fact that Team Pavlik called Winky out several times when Pav was on the way up, but Winky basically ignored them. After Pavlik beat JT Winky pretty much demanded a fight, but Arum told him to go fight Felix Sturm, and come back when he had a title. Winky then accused Pavlik of ducking him. However, Winky couldn't bring anything to the table at the time except a record of 1-1-1 in his last 3 outings, and a reputation for boring fights, so what Arum told him to do made perfect sense. Winky was not willing to follow through.

 

I don't see any way Winky can win. He doesn't have the power to gain Pavlik's respect. He isn't the slickest boxer in the world, he just covers up really well and he can't match Pavlik's work rate. Winky has an excellent Jab, but it will be null against Pavlik.

If Winky had power, like Abraham does, it would a different story, but he doesn't and he's getting older to boot.

If this fight was a few years ago, then Id say an easy Wright UD.


Wright hasnt fought in a while, he may be getting old and I could see Pavlic winning this now days.

If not stoppage, wide decision. Kelly gets points for work rate now. Plus Kelly has a bit of a grudge against Winky for not fighting him when he was coming up but now DEMANDING a title shot.

 

I see a very ugly win for Pavlik
