As I stated before, Pavs. doing everything he needs to do to be considered a very good fighter @ this time. Great? Time will tell and that's what makes it fun. My opinion about Pavlik is he can become as great, maybe greater than Monzon was, and I think Monzon was a great one. Pavs. slightly faster, probably throws a few more punches, fights the full 12 rounds like Monzon fought (15 though), and hits as hard. Monzon had a bit more punches in his bag offensively, had a better (lean back) defense, and I'd never seen him hurt (or hit by a barrage of punches) the way Pav. was against Taylor. If Pav. contiues to improve, especially his defense, he could very well become an ATG.
Of course. Some have more substance, and while I agree that the forums are filled with low quality posters who claim to know more than they do, and go by some concensus they read somewhere from another inexperienced boxing fan(s). However, I do think it is better to either tell them why they are wrong or leave them be. Not that I don't sometimes resort to namecalling - but its not something I am too proud of .
I reckon wot makes KP so loveable is that he comes to fight and is pretty humble about it. Also my favourite part of Kelly, apart from that shiny head is his work ethic. He trains extremely hard with unconventional methods. This is the most important part of any fighter. Training, training and a bit more training. Il take a devoted hard working fighter with heart (which kelly has in spades) over an extremely gifted fighter any day. In saying that, kelly is still young and should be able to iron out a few of his flaws before the big day arrives. Now alot of the "nuthuggers" are really just neo-nazzis that have read mein kampf too many ****in times and think that Kelly will be the saviour of the aryan brotherhood.
Not fast??? Are you kidding for a middleweight he is very fast not RJJ fast but fast... He went jab for jab with JT and has very decpetive speed an power. Pavlik shouldnt have a problem with any fighter 160 to 175.
Kelly Pavlik is underated. There, I said it. At least, he's being underated by the creator of this thread, that's for sure. He's the world champion! Undefeated! Knockout artist with technique and a solid defense! He has heart and makes entertaining matches! He's good!
Rather than just read the first post why not read the thread and the me justifying my reasons for thinking this. Your post is the sort of thing that makes things suck!
Not severely overated Not say so much as Lacy was but he is indeed over rated by a lot of people. He is a good fighter with good power, but is very basic one two style
Hearns had a one two style based on a good jab as well. I think it is too early to say whether he is over or underrated. We know he is good, but is he really great? I don't think anyone can know yet.
I think Jim Lampley said it best. "Any tall fighter who throws more than 40+ jabs a round with better than average or great pop is a serious threat to anybody."
