KELLY v MOLINA

I don’t either but it’s the old cliche, heavyweight boxing anyone can knock anyone out etc. That and the fact Parker’s recent videos he’s looking a lot sharper than I’ve ever gave him credit for.

 

No-one can complain about this ppv, Eddie has really delivered, cant wait for this.

Booked the 31st off work...going to be a great night. Joshua against Parker, Josh Kelly stepping up his game against Molina and for me, the biggest fight of the night big David Price against Povetkin....bring it on!!! So hyped!!

 

Aha fair question and yes of course they can improve & he will improve but judging by the hype & how quick he's being moved they seem to think he can be moved at Josh Taylor pace. Taylor in the amateurs IMO had the same issues. He had hand speed but I always though he got hit will silly shots as he didn't set them up.

Even in first couple of rounds against Ohara Davies he would fire a single jab then a straight left to the head but fell short as OD read it & just stepped back, on that occasion no counter, however if Taylor didn't adjust and done that time and again OD can step back and time a counter right hand for example. Taylor then tended to be reactive in his shots but pro active with feints/baiting OD to lead with a jab which he would slip & dip/counter to the body or simply use that information for later by just slipping the jab but he now had control & control is everything.

So yes, Kelly will improve but considering hype, how quick he's moved I'm concerned he'll get caught out before he makes adjustments. Also, he doesn't have long arms for division so sooner or later opposition will press him & put him under pressure, can he actually fight? He's a forward thinking fighter so sooner or later, he will have to actually fight.

Not slickness, or even take a shot. I mean can he control opponents on the inside, roll, slip shots, use angles and work the body, hooks, uppercuts without leaving himself vulnerable. He has lots still to improve or show, he can of course do that but as I say. The hype is unreal, I'm afraid he won't match expectations because when I watch him, I see a talent. I don't see Errol Spence elite talent. Spence has so many subtle things to control range & dictate pace, he rarely gets credit for & showed a lot VS Peterson, Kelly is a long, long, long way off that level.

Not saying he will never reach it but IMO, he's not YET as good as hype suggests.

Nope & fair play for raising that but would Errol Spence in 6th fight beat this version of Molina, yes & he would beat the living daylights out of him, IMO yes. But it's subjective & down to our own perceptions. I was high on Spence right away, I'm not on Kelly.

I know you get what I'm saying but it's what I've been talking about. I can't prove anymore that Kelly isn't a blue chip prospect than anyone can prove he is. I can only judge on what I see, and I'm not sold yet. Not close.

Good to watch, talented, unique and young. I suppose that should be enough for the moment, I just hate hype. Taylor didn't get much until after OD/Vasquez but it still doesn't compare to Kelly. Buatsi doesn't get same hype, no other prospect is hyped as much.

Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney etc all younger talents & none have the hype of Kelly. However, he has that unique style, looks etc so sure he is marketable but I don't see a special talent.

Froch & Hamed are two of our fighters that come to mind with a hands down style they got away with, both could punch like a mule which makes the opposition second guess attacks as they can/will be hurt with counters. Kelly is nothing like that. Hope I'm proved wrong though & this thread is cast up, I wouldn't mind a jot. But I'm just not sold.

 

Am not sold either and also alot of the hype has to do with the fact booth trains him and he to gets unreal hype imo
