Ken Buchanan to be honoured with a statue in Edinburgh.

    I started a thread on this subject in the British forum but the news will probably be more appreciated in her.

    I read yesterday that there's plans for a statue to be erected of Ken near the Sparta gym in Edinbugh and there's talks of the new Meadow Bank Stadium being named after him.

    I'm chuffed to see Ken eventually being honoured in his own City where he was once embarrassingly under appreciated.

    Good to hear, Ken was a quality boxer, arguably one of the best to ever come out of Britain, let alone Scotland.

    Most people have him a top ten ATG Brit, some have him top 5. In terms of talent he's arguably the best.

    Brilliant news.I have him in the top 5 British boxers of all time and he's my second favourite boxer.
    When I boxed it was Ken I wanted to box like, he was brilliant, alas I wasn't.
    His fight against Donato Puduano is the best display of boxing I've ever seen.
    I met him before the Benn vs Eubank fight in Manchester and he was/is a top man.
    I was expecting bitterness about Duran and Jim Watt after what I'd read in the press about Ken being a cold person.
    He really was nothing like the press had portrayed him.
    Well done Ken, I'll definitely be going to see that.

    I wouldn't be surprised if haft the posters on the Brit had never even heard of Buchanan.

    I wonder if they're going to be showing Duran hitting him with the low punch, maybe at point of impact so that it would be frozen in time.

    Judging by some of the replies on that thread so far then it seems like it might be true. You'll be lucky to see that thread go past one page. If I was to start a thread with a title on the lines of this......'Bolton are to honour Amir Khan by erecting a fragile glass statue of him outside Bolton Mosque'.....then I can guarantee at least a ten page comments fest of pure drivel.

    What should never be forgotten is that Ken was undisputed WORLD lightweight champion! Not one of the 57 variety, cheaper by the dozen belt holders that masquerade as champions today. He beat a champion in his prime abroad who was neither weight drained, nor past it. A year later, he repeated the win over Laguna in Madison Square Garden. It took a rampaging Roberto Duran to beat him in controversial circumstances. For whatever reason, Duran never gave him a rematch.
