Manny Pacquiao was a natural 130-135 pound of recent years who ended up successfully tangling with legitimate welterweights... Looks like classics very own much beloved Ken Buchanan was capable of the very same thing.

Had never seen this one until a few days ago. Lovely stuff. Enjoy!

Howdy Russell, Donato Paduano came to Australia to fight Charkey Ramon in 1973 and the poor bugger absorbed an horrific beating which ended with him hospitalised with facial injuries.

His managers should have been shot as Ramon was a huge 154 pounder and Paduano was a small welterweight.

Paduano showed real courage in that fight, I remember reading a piece on him by the well known female Aussie boxing scribe from the 70s, Bev Wills.

Paduano was a bit of a pretty boy-chick magnet before Ramon rearranged his face.

    Cheers Mate.

Hey @Russell,...a big "thank you" for digging this one up...and it was already on the second page!!! I won't let that happen...I've been looking for this vid for years. It was on You Tube at one time but then it disappeared. This is that "magical" fight that was on the Ali-Bonavena undercard that wowed everyone with Buchanan. He impressed the hell out of Nat Fleischer, Dan Daniel and all them old boys with his skills...the dubbed him the Scottish Ghost afterwards.
Exhibit A for why Buchanan was one of the best boxers of his time IMO.

I'm glad someone else was as excited about it like myself! Love watching recent but somewhat "lost" recent parts of boxing history like this, especially one's involving legitimately great fighters.

The most half way intelligent thing I can say about this fight is that it was "magical"...myself being a YUGE Buchanan fan since 1970.

I've been digging up a lot of good footage that hasn't been on seen on the net in several years if ever before, this is one of them that I'm glad I could provide again to fans and what not. I mean, it was televised at one point for gods sake, there's absolutely no reason it shouldn't be available online.

And I certainly thought that it was lost! My favorite realm of the past is the era I grew up in...and became a permanent boxing fan in...the mid 60's through the 70's. May seem fairly recent, but in reality those days are as archaic, rich and storied as the 90's, 20's, 30's, 40's, and 50's. Keep up the good work Russell! I'm just back from work and ready to hit the sack, but I'll be back to this thread (among others) tomorrow..g'night!!

Now that it's come time to bump this piece of fistic perfection I can reply to this post and nod my head approvingly. Ken certainly was a master boxer that is a real treat to watch, even to the newest or most uninformed viewer... he simply radiates quality and confidence in his performances.

This fight makes a mockery of all those alphabet organizations who 'Felt the need' to create strawweight, jr. fly, super fly, super bantam, super middle and cruiserweight because of 'weight disparity', when in actuality they just saw a 3 pound weight difference as another moneymaker. Ken showed his heart by taking on an undefeated welterweight and schooling him with a 10 lb weight difference. That's what fighters do.

    Love watching Buchanan.

I have the first Laguna fight. I’ve been meaning to upload it. Maybe I’ll upload it this weekend and post it in this thread.
