He was ceratinly a workhorse, always in great condition, went about his business in the ring with a craftsman-like manner.

He attributed a big part of his conditioning (for Laguna II from memory) to doing his roadwork in the steep hills of Myrthr Tydfil in Wales while training with Johnny Owen, he describes the runs as hell

..years ago when I was trainin' I would show kids the Buchanan/Duran tape while tryin' to get them to copy Buchanan...with that little skip back..I used to love it...keep a little bit of weight on that front foot...ready to push off in the defense situation...the best exponent of that particular movement ever...a proper boxer.

...and Ken claimed he had a dented box and had to have surgery on his crown jewels as a result of the hit.

Certainly controverasal ending for both parties.

Personally i felt Ken was looking for the DQ, but thats just me

I think Roberto was in control for the most part. Either way, it's part of boxing folk law now.

Yes Bugger mate the mountain paths here in Wales just North of Merthyr are indeed a killer mate Joe used to train on a similar terrain 20 miles east and his conditioning was spot on also , look for young Light Heavy Cleverly to show similar stamina , Ken was an outstanding fighter but that loss to Roberto Duran ate the inside of him .

Thanks for the info mate, will definately check out Cleverly.

Its unfortunate how much the Duran loss consumed him, in his bio he tells a story about how, on a whim, he dropped everything and he travelled to New York to track Duran down, without the slightest clue where to find him, this is after Ken had retired too i believe.

Fammo is just pondering it in my avatar...even he doesn't know..though I'm sure he is quietly confident.

 , Quiet confidence can only get you so far down the road Rock , prime for prime I've been thinking with Salvidar the obvious common denominator . Yet still can't really decide , maybe we should dig that Wales v Australia thread out and give it another look lol .
