stemming from the thread of jim watt, who was out pointed by arguello

alexis arguello was the ultimate offensive machine in the lower weight classes that could use every punch with one punch power.

however, as he adimitted, he dident have the fastest foot speed.

buchanon was such a great pure boxer that he was considered elegant not to mention a all time great with a good chin.

not to sell arguello short because there is always the possibility of a knock out at anytime.

    who would win?

Arguello is on a diffirent level to ken, ken was great but arguello was a top 30 all time fight the man was something else, he was the type of fighter you see once in your in a life fighter if your lucky

Great fight, tough to call exactly but maybe Arguello`s power edges him a split decision in a very close/contraversial one.

I see Buchanon as outmanouvering Arguello to a UD although Arguello may well take him out late

i think buchanon was every bit as good as the arguello moving up two weight classes. buchanon was a great fighter who stopped a older carlos ortiz and ismael laguna twice. i also hear he was robbed against guts ishimatsu.

A horrible match up for Arguello:

Although the better fighter pound for pound, I do not see Arguello coming to terms with Buchanan's speed, until it is too late.

Then Ken's ring smarts get him a few tricky moments in the championship rounds, to gain a close but Unanimous decision (9-6).

Arguello by clear decision or late stoppage.

I can't see how Buchanan could win this fight. He was too easily drawn into rough fights, and wasn't the kind of ultra slick spoiler who could hold off Arguello a whole fight; and he didn't have the power to hurt him either. Plus he's never really shown he could beat someone of Arguello's caliber.

To be fair though Alexis was beaten and given tough fights by guys I wouldnt put on Kenny's level.

If you are going to base it purely on his lightweight form..which include Arguello's fights with Mancini, Fernandez, Ramirez and Watt..I think Ken can do at least as well as some of those guys.

I do think Alexis right hand finds the marks to often over the cause of the fight and has Ken under wraps by the end though.
Alexis did have issues with fleet footed boxers early on but as you said Ken could be dragged into rough fights..he was a little to Scottish for his own good sometimes.

I reckon Ken makes the rounds..Alexis takes it 9-6'ish in a good tussle.

buchanan was a very good boxer but as has been said would get drawn into rough fights i think its fair to say buchanan had enough smarts to survive any tricky moments that came alomg but as buchanan would get into a fight i think arguello wins a sd with both fighters claiming victory and both wanting a rematch

I think Ken at his mobile elusive Peak is more than capable of duplicating the feat (and Feet) of Vilomar Fernandez and outpointing Alexis, despite his choirboy looks, Ken was Flint hard, And Alexis was a Ring Gentleman, so would not use any Duran type "Roughing up" - Ken had more Bounce-per-Ounce then most fighters and great stamina so could maintain it over 15 rounds, I think Stalker Alexis is usually a Half Step behind the Tartan clad will-o-the-wisp.

Ken is up there with the best LWs. Also his style is hell for Arguello if he keeps up his jabbing and moving.

Although Alexis is a top top fighter and one of my favrouites i like him slightly better than my country man Buchanan.

how i see it. Us scots are definitly no biased

No he got beat by Guts. But the week before he was thumbed in the eye by a sparring partner provided by Guts promoter and Ken could hardly see. and as far as i know Ken was robbed against Miguel Velasquez

I see a total great fight. Very Interesting. I can see Buchanans movement early on troubling Alexis but Alexis makes the necessary adjustments in the mid rounds to take the fight in the later rounds but Ken is very strong late also and i can see a proper trench warfare ahppen in these late rounds with 2 great fighters deseperate to win

Arguello close UD/SD but a deserved win
